Gotham Knights Developer Is Working On A Multiplayer “AAA Console Title”

The forthcoming title could be a multiplayer game set in the DC universe.

WB Games Montreal—the developing studio behind Gotham Knights—is working on an “upcoming AAA console title.” This is according to the Senior Concept Artist, Characters job listing posted on the official Warner Bros. Games Montreal website.

One of the required qualifications for the candidate includes, “A minimum of 5 years’ experience in video game development and at least 1 published AAA game.” Other than the vacancy for the Senior Concept Artists, Characters, WB Games Montreal has one more listing that further spills the beans on the game’s development.

The Rundown:

  • WB Games Montreal has helmed Gotham Knights in recent times—an open-world RPG that is centered on the family of Batman, encompassing the likes of Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing, and Red Hood.
  • The Canada-based developer is evidently working on a “AAA console title” now according to the various job postings that have been posted on the official site.
  • One of the job listings explicitly states that candidates having prior experience working with Unreal Engine and an architecture that’s based on multiplayer will be preferred as a plus.

The vacancy for the Senior Gameplay Programmer has been published right alongside the listing for the Senior Concept. That one goes a little more in-depth with regard to the overall layout of this upcoming console title. One of the job qualifications under the “Knowledge” section demands the following from the candidate.

Having worked previously with Unreal Engine and Multiplayer architecture is a plus.”

Now, we already know that WB Games Montreal has been effectively spotted working on a second project side by side with Gotham Knights (via VGC).

The CV of a WB Games Montreal employee spilled the beans and stated that the person involved has “co-designed features, core gameplay pillars and co-founded the project with the Creative Director.”

But, now that the multiplayer element has been added to the mix, speculation is in the air as to in what direction this second project is headed in. The Senior Concept Artist, Characters job listing mentions the following as the primary responsibility of the person that they’re seeking for the job:

Create a wide range of conceptual content (characters, weapons, gear upgrades, marketing art) to inspire and communicate the visual direction of an upcoming AAA console title.”

The mention of “gear upgrades” has some thinking that this second project is a Superman game with some multiplayer components added in between.

WB Games Montreal has been the proud creator of some exceptionally brilliant IPs such as Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham City. This is the reason why fans are longing for another Batman game that takes the gameplay, story, and plot back to the franchise’s roots.

Its latest venture, however, isn’t something that many are entirely fond of, bashing the open-world RPG for its lackluster movement and plotline that doesn’t add up in the grand scheme of things.

In eXputer’s review, Asad Ahmed writes, “Gotham Knights is an unfinished superhero game with major problems in both gameplay and performance. There are so many little things that hinder the quality of this game, that it is just not worth playing in its current state as the performance issues further heighten the cons of its gameplay.
