GTA Trilogy Exclusive to Rockstar’s Launcher on PC

GTA San Andreas will also launch day one on XBOX Game Pass

After a long period of rumors, hype and boundless speculation, Rockstar have finally shown off the trailer for the upcoming GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition. According to a follow up blog post by Rockstar, it appears that the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Definitive Edition(Try saying that 5 times in a row) will launch exclusively on Rockstar’s very own launcher on PC instead of Steam or EGS. The price of GTA Trilogy was leaked recently, however, earlier today Rockstar announced the prices as well, it’ll be $60 on PC.

The blog post states that, “Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition includes the genre-defining Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas together — each one enhanced for a new generation and available together for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via the Rockstar Games Launcher.” There seems to be no mention anywhere of an upcoming Steam or EGS release.

The post states that GTA San Andreas will be day one on XBOX Game Pass, meanwhile GTA 3 will be day one on PS NOW.

The post also states that GTA San Andreas will also be launching Day one on the XBOX Game Pass, with GTA 3 launching day one on PS NOW instead.

The trailer for the collection shows a host of new improvements including drastically improved visuals and lighting effects. The environments shown of all 3 games look fantastic, though the character models in Liberty City and Vice City do look a tad off. The blog post further goes on to mention additional changes made to the game, most likely through Unreal Engine 4, stating,

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition debuts new GTAV-inspired modern controls, plus across-the-board visual enhancements such as resolution upgrades and improved visual fidelity across the world, and much more to faithfully tune and improve upon all three games, while also maintaining their distinct original aesthetic.”

The PS2 GTA trilogy are some of the most beloved open world games ever made-be it GTA , GTA Vice City or San Andreas- all 3 games are still looked back on fondly to this day. GTA 3 revolutionized open world gaming with its release, Vice City is fondly remembered for its beautiful 80s Miami setting and San Andreas brought an entirely new, more intimate level of character customization to the series. Featuring a whole host of RPG-like stats that you could modify by doing anything around the world, or even just hitting the gym.

It is not yet known whether the collection will retain all of the original music from the PS2 games, I think its safe to assume that that is very likely not going to be the case, as much as we might want it, simply because of how much of a nightmare its going to be renew the licenses for the songs.

Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy- Definitive Edition comes out November 11th on PS4, PS5, XBOX ONE, XBOX Series X/S, Rockstar Games Launcher and the Nintendo Switch. There is also a mobile port slated for sometime next year.
