The Peacock series starring Anthony Mackie has wrapped filming, making 2023 a realistic premiere date.

Story Highlights

  • Asad Qizilbash, the head of PlayStation Productions, has indicated that Twisted Metal could premiere in 2023.
  • In a new Twitter video summing up the studio’s 2023, he put a clown and fire emoji at the end, referencing Sweet Tooth.
  • Qizilbash confirmed in the replies to the Tweet that he is working hard to release the show this year.
  • No release date is confirmed yet for the Anthony Mackie-led show, but we hope it’s in 2023.

Besides video games, Sony and PlayStation have a lot of projects in the works for TV and film. One of these projects is a show based on the Twisted Metal series of vehicular combat games. We have no release date for this Peacock TV series even though it has wrapped production, but we do have a hint.

PlayStation Productions studio head Asad Qizilbash has teased that Twisted Metal will premiere in 2023. In a video anticipating this year for the studio, Qizilbash referenced the series mascot, Sweet Tooth. And in the context of the video, it feels like he is indicating that we will see Twisted Metal this year.

Video games have been adapted into other forms of media since their inception. Hollywood reconstructions of famous games are now a common theme, and you might even say they have gotten better recently. One studio pioneering the change in perception around video game movies and TV shows is PlayStation Productions.

Led by head Asad Qizilbash, the studio works to adapt different PlayStation IPs into other forms of media. If you have been watching the ongoing HBO adaptation of The Last of Us, you’ll know Qizilbash is hitting it out of the park. Since the production company officially launched in 2019, the studio has been hard at work.

Uncharted was the first project of PlayStation Productions, and it was a massive success. Besides the global phenomenon of The Last of Us, the studio has a myriad of projects in the works. Gran Turismo, Days Gone, and Ghost of Tsushima are just some of the IPs getting the film treatment.

On the other hand, many TV shows are in development too at PlayStation Productions. And, among these shows, arguably the most exciting one is the Twisted Metal one. lead by Anthony Mackie and featuring Will Arnett as the voice of Sweet Tooth, the show is in going to stream on Peacock.

Twisted Metal wrapped filming on August 27, 2022, but we haven’t heard anything regarding the release date. However, a new video on the Twitter account of Asad Qizilbash has given us a clue about the launch year. In the tweet, the studio head put 2023 for PlayStation Productions into perspective via an elevator ride.

Gran Turismo shines on the inside of the elevator doors. When these doors open, we can see The Last of Us’ main characters covering the wall. These are the only projects from the studio certified to release this year, hence the caption of the tweet.

However, what catches our attention are the emojis at the end. Qizilbash put a clown emoji alongside a fire one at the end of the caption: “You can’t see me, but my head is on fire too.” Fans caught on to this very quickly and recognized that the clown on fire represents no one but Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal.

So, keeping the context of the tweet in mind, it’s highly probable that Asad Qizilbash is teasing the release of the series in 2023. Considering how it has been months since principal photography finished, this makes a lot of sense. In the replies to the tweet, the PlayStation Productions leader also confirmed this.

Replying to a fan who asked if this tweet is teasing a 2023 release date for Twisted Metal, Qizilbash gave us some hope. He said that no release date has been confirmed, but the studio is “hard at work” to launch it this year. So, it’s safe to say that the studio head has a 2023 premiere in mind for the Peacock series.

Asad Qizilbash didn’t make any promises, but his attitude gives us faith that we’ll see Twisted Metal in 2023. We hope it is soon because the series has an exciting makeup of writers, and actors alike. Deadpool, Zombieland, Monsterc Inc., and G.I. Joe writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are creating and writing this show.

If you know anything about the pop culture influence of these movies, you’ll be excited. Avengers star Anthony Mackie is starring in the show, with WWE star Samoa Joe and Lego Batman voice actor Will Arnett portraying Sweet Tooth. With Neve Campbell and Stephanie Beatriz also present in the cast, this show is stacked with talent.

Hopefully, Qizilbash’s hint is correct and we get to see Twisted Metal premiere in 2023. Do you think the show will be a success or a bad adaptation? Tell us in the comments below.
