Xbox Allegedly Will Not Be Distributing Physical Copies In Brazil Anymore

The era of physical copies might already be seeing an end.

Story Highlights

  • A Brazilian gaming website has reported that Xbox will not be manufacturing physical copies of its games in Brazil any longer.
  • The website got to confirm the news with various retailers.
  • The factory that manufactured discs for Xbox games has also allegedly shut down.

According to some retailers, Xbox has put an end to the distribution of physical games in Brazil. The information came out on a Brazilian website after confirmation of the news to some extent. Anyone wanting to play a released game will have to join the digital store.

Nerdizmo in their article suggests they got to confirm the news from distributors who work with big names like Solutions 2 Go and Warner. The main reason behind this could be the declining trend of physical gaming in the industry. Digital gaming is all over and dominating, considering 90% of total games sold in the UK were digital.

Physical games are not selling like they used to be in earlier years. Gamers and publishers both are more focused more on the digital side. The trend can already be seen because some notable titles coming soon like Hogwarts Legacy, Like a Dragon: Ishin! and Resident Evil 4 are not distributed physically with discs for Xbox.

These games will only be available digitally in Brazil. The pre-orders of physical copies of the games were only available for PlayStation only.

Furthermore, according to another Brazilian website, Revil, the reason behind Resident Evil 4’s physical copies being exclusive for PlayStation only in Brazil is that the factory that copies Xbox discs in the country has shut down. As a result, unless the situation changes, no additional Capcom games for Microsoft platforms will be released on disc.

The physical market has been seeing its decline for a long time however, Brazil might be the first to initiate a complete removal of physical sales from the gaming industry. A complete removal might not be possible but physical copies may end up just as nostalgic reminders of your old gaming days in the future.

Another reason behind the decline is the affordability of digital formats. Xbox series S has been a fair success lately due to it being more affordable and consumer friendly. The console works for digital games only. From that, we can assume that Xbox might actually be planning to put a full stop to physical manufacturers.

More and more digital platforms are skyrocketing including the Xbox Game Pass, Game Pass has pushed the circle for digital gaming being a massive success lately. Game Pass has proved its fan service either through subscriptions or free games. Moreover, PS Plus is another addition to the digital era.

Additionally, if internal manufacturing of physical copies actually shuts down, discs might have to be imported resulting in high prices, which can further lead to the complete end of an era for physical games in Brazil.

There has been given a short statement from Microsoft on the matter. Voxel, another gaming website in Brazil received a message from the Brazilian division of Microsoft. The company did not take a stance regarding the rumors.

At Xbox, we are always looking for different ways to continue to bring fans the best content to play on the device they want. The community can now enjoy our games through digital codes or on their first day through Game Pass. We are looking forward to the incredible 12 months ahead of us”, said the company in a note sent to Voxel.

Furthermore, Xbox has been seen making decisions lately as Xbox has allegedly canceled its E3 appearance due to a marketing budget cut. Microsoft has sought to cut costs in the company, laying off 11,000+ people in the last few weeks.

Moreover, we have received another exciting news just today. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is available at 66% off due to a New Mashable/Xbox partnership. The special Valentine’s Day offer lets you get the best Game Pass tier for just $9.99.
