2022 has been a year full of great games. This year has delivered since the start and we have been blessed with amazing titles like Elden Ring, Horizon: Forbidden West, and Stray. However, with the release of one of the most-awaited titles of the past few years, it ended with an even bigger bang.
God of War Ragnarök came out at the start of this month and has taken the world by storm since then. It has become a favorite for most awards and the critical reception has been through the roof. Many have called it better than the first game, which is insane by itself.
And, the sales of the sequel back up all of the critical acclaims. God of War Ragnarök has sold more units in one day than the first game did in a whole week. In the UK, the game’s launch has been bigger than that of Elden Ring and Call of Duty, and it shows no sign of stopping.
Major Takeaways:
- God of War Ragnarök topped the Italian charts in its first week of release.
- Both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions held the top 2 spots in the country.
- The game continues to dominate in Europe, after previously topping charts in Spain and UK.
God of War Ragnarök has topped the Italian charts in its first week, dethroning FIFA 23. Italian Interactive Digital Entertainment Association released this chart info for the week ending November 13. So, the Sony game topped the charts in just 5 days of its release.

The game holds the top two spots on the chart, with the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 version. In the 1st place is the PlayStation 5 version of God of War Ragnarök, as next-gen continues to grow. Behind it at No.2, is the PlayStation 4 version of the sequel, completely obliterating the competition.
FIFA 23 also goes out of No.1 again for only the 2nd time since its release. God of War Ragnarök is only the 2nd game to dethrone it from the top spot this year after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Knowing the sales of Modern Warfare 2, the Sequel is certainly in good company.
Other new games on the chart include the really popular Sonic Frontiers and Football Manager 2023. However, the games were no match for the might of God of War Ragnarök, and got beaten pretty easily. FM 2023 took the No.6 spot and beat Frontiers which ended up at No.7.
The Italian charts are just another example of the dominance of God of War Ragnarök in Europe. It also topped the charts in the UK, where it had a huge opening week. Spanish charts also saw God of War Ragnarök hold the top spot as it sold 90,000 physical copies alone.
All of these numbers should clear out any doubt that God of War Ragnarök has been a massive success. It has already met its initial sales expectations from Sony. Hence, it’s safe to say the Santa Monica title has exceeded all expectations.
