Mortal Kombat 1’s Omni-Man Reveal Is Too Accurate

The effort put into the game by the devs is crystal clear here.

Story Highlights

  • Mortal Kombat 1 is the latest iteration in the long-running Mortal Kombat franchise, serving as the reboot of the series, which, in fact, has also happened before with the IP.
  • The fighting-based title features a recreation of the in-game universe, with Liu Kang, following the events of Mortal Kombat 11, being at the forefront of this newly created realm.
  • As the game was launched last month, the developers are still introducing new characters to Mortal Kombat 1, with Omni-Man being the latest one in line.

Well-reputed developer NetherRealm seems to have done a number on Nolan Grayson — the deuteragonist of the popular Invincible animated TV series — for Mortal Kombat 1. Taking to YouTube to make the official reveal, Omni-Man’s first look and gameplay has been unveiled, and boy oh boy, doesn’t Nolan bear striking resemblances to his personality and some of his dire actions in the show?

Honestly, I was fairly concerned when rumors surrounding the inclusion of Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat 1 started to spread as to how the devs would design him for the game. Taking a look at Jean-Claude Van Damme, things weren’t looking good as is. Following his reveal, fans didn’t take long to bash the developers for getting Van Damme’s face model wrong.

However, looking at what we have available at our disposal right now, there’s nothing to complain about with Omni-Man in the equation. Commenting under his official reveal, one fan says, “The train scene, the spine grab, the head pounder X-ray, and the skull crusher finisher. The care they put into it, they’ve outdone themselves 10/10.”

Another person praising the attention to detail exhibited by NetherRealm commented, ” I love that both of his fatalities and his fatal move are direct references to some of the best moments in the show. I’m so glad they used the train.” That’s pretty much what’s gotten me all excited as well, especially after learning that J.K. Simmons himself will be voicing Nolan Grayson in Mortal Kombat 1.

As for the video, Omni-Man will be available to play sometime in November as part of the Kombat Pack for Mortal Kombat 1, which is inclusive of other high-class characters as well, including Peacemaker, Homelander, Ermac, Quan Chi, and Takeda. Feel free to check out the DLC on Steam, PlayStation Store, and Xbox, should you decide to purchase it for $39.99 on your desired platform.

I loved Invincible’s first season, mainly because of Omni-Man’s menacing character, and what he brought to the show as a whole. Watching that 1-minute reveal trailer, I’ve been subtly reminded of Nolan’s ill-advised brutality all over again, and the prospect of him being a power player in Mortal Kombat 1 sure looks on the cards.

For those who missed it, it all started back in May this year when an Amazon listing of the game leaked online, spilling the beans on a Mortal Kombat 1 DLC pack that turned out to be genuine, fast-forward to at present. At that time, characters such as Omni-Man, Homelander, and DC’s Peacemaker were rumored to be part of the next Mortal Kombat game, and tell you what? All of that turned out to be true.

Then, a TikTok post by Vought International Studios, a fictional company from the world of The Boys that has somehow managed to seep into real life, replied to a fan, seemingly confirming Homelander for Mortal Kombat 1. Think of the match-up between the latter and Omni-Man. In all fairness, that round should turn out in quite an ugly manner for Homelander, if this video is anything to go by.

Mortal Kombat 1 was released on 19 September 2023, on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Those who bought either the Premium or Kollector’s Edition of the game got to benefit from one week of early access to the title.
