According to Award Tracker Gamefa, Baldur’s Gate 3 has won the most Game of the Year awards in 2023, getting crowned by 64 different publications and leading every other title. In totality, the RPG has taken home more than half (53.8% to be precise) of the GOTY awards on the line this year.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s impressive Game of the Year haul includes the top prize from The Game Awards, WatchMojo, Vulture, Gamescom Reader’s Choice, and many more publications. The second position in this ranking is occupied by The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which has won a solid 29 GOTY titles, making up 24.4% of the total awards.
Polygon, IGN, GQ Magazine, and The Guardian are among the names that put the Nintendo RPG above Baldur’s Gate 3 in their ranking. The Larian title is currently 35 awards ahead of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom with both of these games having the same user score of 9.6/10.

Alan Wake 2 is at the number 3 spot, winning a solid 18 Game of the Year nominations in a competitive year. Golden Joystick Awards, NME, VGC, and Hardcore Gamer were the publications that granted the survival-horror title their top prize. Several Brazilian sites like Nacao Tech, Overplay, and Flow Games Awards, picked Alan Wake 2 as their Game of the Year, showcasing an interesting trend.
Besides these games, titles like Octopath Traveler 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Final Fantasy XVI, Sea of Stars, A Space for the Unbound, Shadow Gambit, and Disney Illusion Island, took home one Game of the Year Award each, making up 0.8% of the total percentage.
With not many awards to go, Baldur’s Gate 3 looks set to beat out The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as 2023’s official Game of the Year. The turn-based RPG has already been a massive commercial success for Larian Studios, selling a massive 2.5 million copies in its early access phase alone.
Baldur’s Gate 3 broke Steam records with its concurrent players reaching an 875,000 concurrent player peak two weeks after its initial launch. Larian also revealed that the game surpassed the studio’s expectations and those of Microsoft. Hence, this GOTY title is just another feather in Baldur’s Gate 3 cap, which is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and macOS, after initially releasing for PC on August 3, 2023.
