Street Fighter X Tekken might be available for purchase on Steam as speculated by fans due to an update on SteamDB. According to the site, a new depot was added on January 10, 2024, titled “tekken_sf_temp.” This has led to people forming differing opinions about what the update might entail for this iconic collaboration between Capcom and Bandai Namco‘s legendary fighting game franchises.
In 2021, Capcom removed several games from Steam due to a conflict with the remnants of Games for Windows Live. While the service stopped receiving support back in 2014, its servers continued to operate till the end of the decade. However, many titles utilizing the service required critical updates to ensure the proper function of multiplayer.
Street Fighter X Tekken along with Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City, and some other titles were among those placed on a temporary “purchase halt” as Capcom investigated the issue with GFWL. Unfortunately, Operation Raccoon City has been retired from Steam and is no longer available on the platform. Despite being a commercial success after being slammed with negative reviews, it wasn’t able to return to Steam.

With the latest update on SteamDB, players believe that the game may be going on sale once more. As there’s been no official confirmation yet, this could hint at several possibilities including the title meeting Operation Raccoon City’s fate. Some people, however, believe this to be a sign for the other side of this crossover fighter due to the update’s naming sequence.
In 2021, Harada revealed in an episode of his YouTube show that Tekken X Street Fighter was placed on pause and not canceled. Development for the game was around 30% complete before it was put on hold with some animations being reused for Akuma in Tekken 7. Some players still hope for the game to see the light of day but whether it will is anybody’s guess. The same can be said for SFXT going back on sale.
Street Fighter X Tekken launched on March 6, 2012, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 before arriving on PC & PSVITA later that year. In current events, the eighth installment of the Tekken series is scheduled for release on January 26, 2024, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
