Story Highlights
- Baldur’s Gate 3 is Larian Studios’ latest RPG, based on the mega-popular Dungeons and Dragons franchise.
- The game has just passed 500,000 reviews on Steam, and the majority of them are flagged positive.
- This comes in right after the title bagged last year’s Game of the Year award in December.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of those games that we’re not going to see the quality of getting replicated anytime soon, provided the standard that the developer Larian Studios has mustered up with this title. As such, Michael Douse, the Director of Publishing at Larian, made a new post on X, making it known to the world that the RPG has clocked more than half a million reviews on Steam. Incredible.
Ty for 500,000+ Steam reviews. An insane number. I remember 9 years ago or so I used to look at games with that many reviews thinking how insane it was. Now we’ve hit that number all I can think is … thank f**k for our community team,” says Michael on X.
And the best part? It’s not like those ~500,000 reviews are subpar; the vast majority of them are flagged “Overwhelmingly Positive” on Steam, signaling monumental success for Larian’s latest venture, and rightfully so, If I may say so myself. Perhaps, this one review describes the matter perfectly, “[Larian Studios] is a relic of gaming seemingly lost and excruciatingly difficult to find in the western markets today, and they have my full adoration and respect.”
On a side note, glad tidings didn’t stop coming through for the turn-based RPG over the course of its release. Just a little over a month ago, Baldur’s Gate 3 was crowned the best-performing PC game of 2023, as per data revealed by trusted tracker platform VGI. And aside from bagging last year’s Game of the Year award, it also won the majority of awards that The Game Awards 2023 had to offer.
