Story Highlights
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt gets praised across the world for it’s brought to the table.
- The RPG, thanks to its visuals, gameplay, and plotline, is one of the best games ever made.
- Today, the game celebrates its 9th birthday, after having dominated the RPG genre for years on end.
Games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, let alone RPGs, come along only once in a decade and having played through the action-adventure from start to finish, I can personally vouch for that statement. CD Projekt Red released the industry magnifico back in 2015 — on May 19 specifically — which dates back to 9 years ago from today. Time really flies when you’re having fun, it seems.
Winning the distinctive Game of the Year award in the year it came out, The Witcher 3 is celebrated across the world for what it brings to the RPG genre, including a terrific in-game world that’s brimming with detail, involved combat with a fair amount of depth to it, interesting characters, and substantial replay value where it’s hard getting tired of the title.
Remembering This RPG Icon After All These Years
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has rolled over 50 million copies to date, CDPR announced back in March 2023, signaling sheer success for the franchise as a whole as the cumulative series sales went over the 75 million mark as well. And thanks to the sprawling triumph of the RPG as a whole, CDPR has got over 250 developers working on the next mainline Witcher game.
Keeping the game fresh and up-to-speed with modern trends, CDPR decided to bring The Witcher 3 to recent standards, thereby incorporating a “next-gen” update for the RPG that offers a visual overhaul in the name of adding ray tracing to the title as well. Sure, this update had its issues at first, but the devs have managed to iron out most of them.
