FF16 The Rising Tide: How To Unlock Chocobo [Explained With Images]

Learn all the details on how to unlock Clive's Chocobo companion Ambrosia for traversal in Mysidia in the Rising Tide DLC.

Clive’s childhood Chocobo companion Ambrosia returns to help him out again in the Rising Tide DLC of FF16, but knowing how to unlock her can be tricky if you’re not paying attention. While she was a major reward to the sidequests of the base game, contributing to the game’s various secrets, thankfully, this time, it should be a cakewalk to bring her with you on this DLC’s journey with my guide.

Key Takeaways
  • The latest Rising Tide expansion in FF16 requires you to unlock your Chocobo mount again to traverse around the new region.
  • You can acquire access to ride Clive’s Chocobo in Mysidia by completing the Bird of Passage side quest.
  • The side quest is available pretty early into the DLC and has pretty self-explanatory objectives without any combat involvement.

You can unlock Ambrosia the Chocobo in The Rising Tide expansion by completing the Bird of Passage side quest. This quest is given to you by Manda in the Haven village, but there are a couple of pre-requisites to getting this quest available to my knowledge, which I have mentioned below:

  • Introductory Sidequests: You might need to complete the first two sidequests you can tackle upon arriving in the Haven for the first time, which will reward you with the forgery and item vendors.
  • Obtaining Leviathan: The Bird of Passage sidequest is unlocked on your second visit to Haven, right after you obtain Leviathan’s Eikonic abilities.

Bird Of Passage Side Quest Objectives

Now, if I’m being quite serious and if you haven’t already started the DLC prior to this guide, the side quest itself is extremely simple as it primarily involves talking to a few NPCs around the world. There is literally no combat section involved either, so simply follow quest objectives, which I’ve also summarized below for your convenience.

  1. Manda’s Location: The quest location itself for the Bird of Passage from Manda can be found on the Northern side of Haven, as shown above in the image.

  2. Speak to Manda’s Father: He is located near the stores in the village and, upon talking to him, will inform Clive he can help by bringing a couple of Mimett Gourd.

  3. Speak to Rowan In Martha’s Rest: Fast-travel to Martha’s Rest and talk to Rowan at the entrance, who can possibly help Clive obtain the Mimett Gourds.

  4. Campsite near Northreach: Now head back to the campsite where you first meet Shula in the DLC and hand over the Mimett Gourd to Manda’s Father.

  5. Completion & Rewards: On quest completion, you’ll receive Wyrrite but, most importantly, unlock the option of using Ambrosia as your Chocobo mount in the region of Mysidia of the Rising Tide DLC.

I really don\'t get why it isn\'t unlocked from the start of the DLC.
