Each character in Granblue Fantasy Relink has a set of defensive and offensive skills and the best ones in both categories can become life-saving in critical situations. Some characters have better defensive skills than others so it is important to choose the right support character for your team as well.
- The best defensive skills will allow players to endure tough boss battles and increase their chances of survival.
- Some of these skills are based on healing while others are based on buffs and debuffs.
- There are certain character-exclusive skills but some skills are common among all characters.
- Using the best defensive skills, players won’t even need to depend on their heals in battle.
- Author’s Note: I have around 10+ hours in Granblue Fantasy Relink and have tested multiple skills in battle, so you can trust my guide and its content.
The Best Defensive Skills
Here is a list of all the best defensive skills and what these can do in the game:
No. | Defensive Skill | Best For | Description |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Clarity | The Best Balanced Defensive Skill | Can regenerate health and remove debuffs. |
2 | Drachenstolz | The Best Defensive Skill For Vane | Increase Vane's attack power and defense. |
3 | Kaltzwinger | The Best Defensive Skill For Lancelot | Freeze bosses and make them vulnerable to attacks. |
4 | Revive | The Best Resurrection Skill | Bring back downed party members to action. |
5 | Rampart | The Best AOE Defensive Skill | Creates a barrier which provides invincibility to everyone inside. |
6 | Phalanx | The Best Resistance Defensive Skill | Decrease the damage take from enemy attacks. |
7 | Panacea | The Best Healing Skill | Heal your entire party without using potions. |
8 | Stall | The Best Debuff Defensive Skill | Slow down enemies and bosses and easily punish them with your attacks. |
1. Clarity
Why I Chose This: I can provide support to my entire party by using the Clarity skill as it affects both attack power and health.
The Clarity skill can affect both offense and defense. Basically, it is the main character’s skill and when cast, it forms a circle where health regeneration can be accessed and debuffs can be removed. It is an amazing defensive skill that can become life-saving for all team members.
2. Drachenstolz
Why I Chose This: Vane is one of my two favorite characters to use in Granblue Fantasy Relink and as such, I heavily started depending on the Drachenstolz skill.
Drachenstolz is the Best Defensive Skill For Vane in Granblue Fantasy Relink and turns out to be one of the strongest defensive skills. Not only does this increase Vane’s attack power and defense, but it also blesses him with Guts.
Guts allows Vane to survive a fatal attack when he’s on low health, which is especially useful for a tank character like him. Drachenstolz is one of the few reasons why I consider Vane to be the strongest character in Granblue Fantasy Relink.
3. Kaltzwinger
Why I Chose This: Lancelot is my other main and his Kaltzwinger skill was helpful for me in apprehending bosses for a brief period.
Now, the Kaltzwinger skill does not provide any buffs to Lancelot or his party, nor does it heal him. It is a defensive skill that slows down a boss or multiple enemies and straight up freezes them for counterattacking. Bosses in Granblue Fantasy are extremely agile which is why this skill becomes extremely useful.
I was not only able to freeze bosses but in gank fights, multiple enemies would freeze if I used Kaltzwinger correctly. There is only one downside to using this skill and that is its long downtime.
4. Revive
Why I Chose This: I was able to revive my whole party in a single cast using the Revive skill in a late-game boss battle.
The main character in my opinion is the best support in Granblue Fantasy Relink and his/her Revive skill can be the difference between success and failure during the toughest boss battles. Ordinarily, a downed party member can be revived but it requires another party member to perform the action which makes both of them vulnerable.
However, using Revive, which is one of the Best Resurrection Skills in GBR, you can resurrect all of your party members and can even regenerate some of their health.
5. Rampart
Why I Chose This: I can protect my whole party from fatal attacks using the Rampart skill that is exclusive to Vane in Granblue Fantasy Relink.
Another Vane exclusive skill that has a defensive effect on all of his party members rather than just himself. Vane can summon a huge barrier around himself by casting Rampart. The barrier protects him from any damage and essentially makes him invincible.
The best part about the skill is that other party members can also enter the barrier and the whole team can become invincible until the spell is cast. This is a life-saving skill and my favorite AOE Defensive Skill against the deadly attacks of various bosses in GBR.
6. Phalanx
Why I Chose This: I was able to reduce the damage taken by my whole party which allowed all of my teammates to spam their skills.
Damage resistance can be granted to not only the user of Phalanx but also his teammates. When you are receiving extremely low damage from deadly attacks, you can spam your moves and keep tanking the attacks of your enemies.
This skill is for such situations when a boss goes into overdrive and starts using their most powerful attacks, so the Phalanx skill comes in and improves your overall chances of survival.
7. Panacea
Why I Chose This: Using Panacea, I was able to save up on my health potions as the skill was enough to heal the whole party.
The Panacea skill further solidifies the main character as the strongest support character. It acts like a replacement for your healing potions, which you won’t even have to use since the skill will be enough to heal your party again and again throughout the entire battle. Just make sure to use the skill when you have your whole team within range.
8. Stall
Why I Chose This: I was able to slow down the most agile bosses with this skill, which gave me more time to inflict damage on them.
Most of the bosses in Granblue Fantasy Relink are extremely fast and agile. Some bosses are so fast that I wasn’t able to hit them with all of my skills without staggering them first. However, the Stall skill can help a lot with such bosses as it can slow them down and leave them open for punishing attacks.
Bonus Defensive Abilities
Aside from the defensive skills, I believe that there are two defensive abilities available in the skill tree of almost every character that every player should get, which are:
- Perfect Dodge: Last-second dodge will bless you with invincibility which will then allow you to go berserk with your attacks.
- Perfect Guard: Perfect parries won’t knock you back and will buff your attack or defense as well.
My Thoughts On The Best Defensive Skills
In my opinion, you will need to use these skills if you want to survive against late-game boss battles. Some of the boss fights are also filled with gank where you will get jumped by fodder enemies from all directions as well. It was situations like these where using strong defensive skills allowed me to survive.
This concludes my guide on the best defensive skills in Granblue Fantasy Relink. I have included the eight best skills that are amazing for defense, healing, and buffing up your teammates. I hope that the guide helped you in learning how to endure tough boss battles. Let me know if you’re enjoying playing Granblue Fantasy Relink in the comments below!
