Story Highlights
- Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an upcoming RPG by Capcom; an extremely anticipated one, to say the least.
- Every couple of days, the developer showcases a new Dragon’s Dogma 2 vocation, or in other words, class.
- This time, it’s the Mage vocation, an expert in support-based gameplay and unique ranged combat.
Capcom is gearing up to release one of the most sought-after games of 2024 next month, the sequel to the critically acclaimed Dragon’s Dogma from 2012. Ahead of the title’s launch, the developer has been releasing small-scale gameplay videos spanning different vocations — or classes — pertaining to Dragon’s Dogma 2, with the Mage vocation being the latest in line. Have a whiff of this character ahead.
So, the Mage is best employed for ranged combat and is defined as a playable vocation for those who like to keep their distance from the enemy all the while supplying healing and buffing properties to the rest of the warriors in your squad. The footage showcases some of the more powerful spells that the Mage can cast just as well, so it’s not all Mr. Nice Guy in there.
Wielding a staff, the Mage offers support to their party in various ways: from launching magick attacks, offering enchantments that bolster their party members’ weapons, to casting healing spells. The more advanced and powerful the magick is, the longer the incantation time will be. As a Mage, you will experience the strategic excitement of deftly executing your magick abilities,” Capcom describes the Mage.
To shed some light on the first game, Dragon’s Dogma features a total of 9 different vocations, with the Mage and Sorcerer being two different classes. It is likely that the sequel will feature the latter as well sometime in the near future, considering how it’s the advanced variant of the Mage vocation, boasting more powerful abilities and overall potential.
On a side note, the forthcoming JRPG will sport an uncapped frame rate on launch, but it’s not clear whether all platforms will support that feature. A previous rumor comes into play here, though, one that says Dragon’s Dogma 2 will only be playable at 30 FPS on consoles. I sure hope that doesn’t turn out to be true, because from what we’ve seen up until now, 60 FPS should be the bare minimum for a game like this.
