Ed Boon Says That NetherRealm’s Next Game Will Be Injustice 3 Or Mortal Kombat 12

The creator of the two IPs says one of their sequels will be Warner Bros. next games.

Fighting games are the genre upon which the backbone of gaming was built. The medium gained popularity in the form of arcade games in the 90s, the most popular of which were fighting ones. Hence, it’s no surprise that the genre is one of the most popular even today.

It has grown a lot since its early days in the arcades and many big gaming IPs now exist. Arguably the biggest among them is Mortal Kombat from Warner Bros. and Nether Realm. Since the release of its first game in 1992, the series has become a mega-franchise in all forms of media.

The success the series has is only because of one man, Ed Boon, who created the series. Boon is a huge figure in the gaming world and also created Injustice and made Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe. Now, he has revealed what his next games are going to be.

Major Takeaways:

  • Ed Boon and NetherRealm’s next game will be Injustice 3 or Mortal Kombat 12.
  • No confirmation about when this sequel will release.
  • Boon is also going to fix the scarcity of 3D characters in present games.

Ed Boon has said that NetherRealm’s next game is going to be one of Injustice 3 or Mortal Kombat 12. He released this info in a Twitter Q&A while replying to a fan’s question about his next project. So, we finally have confirmation that one of the two games is the next title he is working on.

It has been a long time since the last game in both of these series came out. Mortal Kombat 11 was released 3 years ago, while Injustice 2 hit the shelves 5 years ago in 2017. As both these series release sequels after a 4-year gap, it is time for both of them to have a new game.

Ed Boon did not confirm which one of these games was in the works. We only got a hint and nothing else from the creator, but maybe we will get a sneak peek at The Game Awards. Fans are also a bit let down that he isn’t making a sequel to Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe, which came out 14 years ago.

Some are speculating that Boon mentioning both of them together is hinting at Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe 2. But all of that is speculation right now and we know nothing for sure. Only time will tell which game Ed Boon is actually making with Warner Bros. interactive.

A fan also asked why 3D-era characters are not being featured in present games right now. Ed Boon said that this is something NeatherRealm will soon make right. So, maybe his next game will feature more classic characters.
