  • Sega has released Sonic Frontiers’ farewell update, The Final Horizon, which includes additional playable characters and story content.
  • The patch also comes with bug fixes.
  • This will be Sonic Frontiers’ last update and no additional content is expected to be released for the game.

Sonic Frontiers has received its final update, known as The Final Horizon, from Sega marking the end of the game. With this update, the Japanese conglomerate has set the stage for the upcoming Sonic game, the Sonic Superstars, which drops next month on October 17. The update was eagerly awaited by fans as well. Upon the announcement of the update, the company promised fans the new playable and story content.

Now after the release of the patch, it seems they have stayed true to their promises. As seen in the release notes on Sonic The Hedgehog’s blogsite, Sega has added lots of new and exciting stuff as promised. The Final Horizon update comes with new story content which allows the player to go back to Ouranos, the island in the final chapter of Sonic Frontiers. There players can explore additional stories and playthrough them.

Furthermore, new playable characters including Amy Rose, Knuckles the Echidna, and Miles “Tails” Prower have been added to the story mode. The addition of these characters has gripped the fans with excitement. The patch also adds new collectables and challenges to Sonic Frontiers.

The new story content was teased in the trailer. It shows Sonic trying to tame Cyber Corruption and convert it into a power source. And, as Sonic is dealing with that, the three new characters namely Amy Rose, Knuckles, and Tails are set on the mission to recover and collect Chaos Emerald.

To access the additional story content players will have to complete the base game and reach the final area. There they will see a message on the title screen that a portal has been opened in Ouranos. Furthermore, any remaining bugs that might otherwise cause any hiccups to players playing their farewell round of the game have been dealt with in The Final Horizon update.

Sonic Frontier’s Game Director Morio Kishimoto took to Twitter, now known as X, to post what seemed like a final message on the game. He wrote,

Sonic Frontier is now complete. I learned a lot from interacting with everyone here after the product version was released. Unfortunately, we were not able to implement all of the opinions we received from everyone during the final stage. Instead, I understood the path I should take. It was a very intense year after the release.”

Sonic Frontiers’s The Final Horizon update is available for free on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
