New Fortnite Rocket Racing Leak Reveals An Upcoming “Death Race” Mode

It could arrive sometime in early or late 2024.

Story Highlights

  • A new Fortnite leak has revealed the rumored Death Race mode, which is a more dangerous version of Rocket Racing.
  • The goal of this mode is to make racing harder for your opponents by placing traps or pushing them into walls.
  • The exact particulars, like its release date, are currently unclear. Fans suspect we may see its release in early 2024.

Just when we thought that Rocket Racing could not get any better, a new rumor suggests that Epic Games is already brewing a more gruesome version of the mode behind the curtains. As per the Fortnite dataminer @BeastFNCreative on Twitter, Psyonix is already working on a mode called “Death Race,” which will pit players against each other in a plethora of racing tracks with weaponry and traps to fight their way first to the finish line.

Besides competing for first place, the other objective in the Death Race would be to hinder your opponents as much as possible. Whether it is done by pushing the other vehicles into the walls of the track or by blowing them up completely using traps like spikes depends on the player. It will introduce a new set of challenges that many players felt lacked from the new Rocket Racing mode, despite its brilliant intro of racing in Fortnite.

The history of the rumored Fortnite mode goes back to September this year. The insider @iFireMonkey found its first mention as a placeholder playlist icon for “Del Mar.” The playlist, initially created on November 23, 2022, was later confirmed to be Rocket Racing. Some players assumed the Death Race aspect would just eliminate players in the last place, but we have now learned that there is much more to the new rumored racing mode.

As the player count of Fortnite kept climbing new heights due to new prosperous additions, the same insider also discovered a map for the Death Race and a slew of other tracks for the Rocket Racing mode. The “Wedge” map, true to its name, was found to be full of spikes and traps that would hinder the competing players greatly on the track while racing. A video of the datamined map by @SpushFNBR showcased the insane difficulty of the map.

Regardless, eXputer’s Muhammad Haris Umer reviewed Fortnite in 2023 and gave it a generous 4.5/5 score. The title was praised for regular updates, fun building, stable servers, and great performance.
