Helldivers 2’s New PC Patch Promises Matchmaking Improvement

Helldivers 2, an ambitious live service shooter from the talented folks over at Arrowhead Game Studios, was finally released yesterday and to rave reviews across the board. That said, the game’s currently suffering from a breadth of launch issues, namely in the form of crashing, freezing, and decreased matchmaking. A new patch by the devs for PC, therefore, has been rolled out to tend to the latter.

Hello again Helldivers! Mikael here again with another update. We’ve uploaded a patch to Steam that should improve matchmaking for PC. The patch also includes some other crash fixes we’ve identified.
We know there’s more to solve, and we’re working our way through it. Nevertheless, we hope this rapid patch goes a long way to making your experience better. Now go smash some bugs (and bots)!” says Helldivers 2’s Game Director.

The announcement came on the title’s official Discord server, should you choose to participate and stay up to speed with forthcoming developments. Yesterday, Arrowhead put out another post, saying that it has “improved matchmaking and the most frequent crashes.” On the PlayStation 5 side of things, the devs say that if this released hotfix works as intended, they’ll patch the PS5 version of the title shortly as well. 

In recent times, Johan Pilestedt reached out to the community, affirming that the studio has been in “crisis mode” because of the sheer amount of launch issues that it’s tackled up until now. I also encountered more crashes than I would’ve preferred, mainly popping up on booting the game on PC, not to mention the excess matchmaking times.

However, it’s a no-brainer that underneath all these temporary challenges resides one extremely fun game. No wonder Helldivers 2 clocked over 60,000 players on Steam soon after releasing, while also becoming a top-seller right away.

Helldivers 2 came out on February 8, 2024, for the PlayStation 5 and PC. It’s the sequel to the first Helldivers from 2015, which was actually a top-down shooter helmed by the same developer.
