Minecraft Tops 300 Million Sold Copies; Remains Best-Selling Game Of All Time

Minecraft Live 2023 wraps up with developer Mojang announcing that the legendary sandbox game has reached over 300 million copies sold worldwide solidifying its status as the best-selling video game of all time. This remarkable achievement comes just before Minecraft’s 15th anniversary in 2024. Following that, the Minecraft team proceeded to thrill fans with a plethora of new announcements.

Celebrating the incredible achievement, the CVP of the Minecraft franchise and Head of Mojang Studios, Helen Chiang expressed her gratitude to the community while teasing more content in the pipeline.

As we approach the 15th anniversary, Minecraft remains one of the best-selling games of all time, with over 300 million copies sold, a milestone no one could have dreamed of when we were all placing our first blocks. Our incredible community has built Minecraft into what it is today and what it will become in the future. We can’t wait to share new Minecraft content and experiences in the years ahead.”

In an official press release, Mojang shared some interesting stats with the fans based on an average activity between September and October 2023. There is a daily average of 15 million skeletons killed, 8.8 million pickaxes crafted, 400 thousand wolves tamed, 915 km pigback traveling, 700 thousand cakes made, and woah! 6.7 million cakes are baked every day.

Moving forward, Mojang has announced Minecraft vanilla update 1.21 coming in mid-2024. The update will introduce exciting new features like trial chambers and Copper Bulbs. Furthermore, “The Crafter” feature will allow players to conduct automatic crafting, and “The Breeze” is the game’s latest hostile mob. The 2023 Minecraft mob vote winner has also been announced.

Not just stopping here, Minecraft Marketplace will welcome Star Wars: Path of the Jedi DLC on November 7. The team also ran a trailer at the event. Minecraft Education is also working with BBC to bring Planet Earth DLC to Marketplace in 2024. 

There is still more, Minecraft Legends’ principal design director revised the game for some of the community-requested changes notably custom campaign and PVP modes. Also, the next Lost Legend, “Creeper Clash,” arrives on October 19 for Halloween, followed by “Snow vs. Snout” in December. Excitingly, frogs are coming to Legends in December too.

And, while Minecraft Live wraps up and the sandbox game is heading towards its 15th-anniversary celebration, Mojang’s Kayleen Walters urges fans to look forward to yet more “surprises”.
