The Elder Scrolls Online has persisted as one of the most popular MMOs to ever launch, and it shows no signs of slowing down. It has broken a significant milestone and gained over 24 million players during its 10th anniversary. The feat was confirmed by none other than the ZeniMax studio head and game director Matt Firor during the ESO 2024 global reveal presentation on YouTube (at 14:22).

The MMO has gained an additional two million players in the last two years. It boasted 10 million players in November 2017, continuing to soar at a steady pace since. After experiencing massive growth spurts in the last half a decade, ESO gathered 20 million users in January 2022 for the first time. The forecast suggests that millions of new players will continue to pour into The Elder Scrolls Online servers for the foreseeable future.

ESO has grown over the years to be 24 million players, including gamers from all over the world. Originally in English, French, and German, we now offer localization in Chinese, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish,” says the director Matt Firor.

All in all, the massive achievement was accomplished at quite a crucial point for The Elder Scrolls Online. As a result, Bethesda and ZeniMax are celebrating the title’s 10th anniversary with a bang. It will apparently be commemorated for over 15 months —spanning 2024 and 2025— with huge community events that will be held all over the globe.

So, we are celebrating our ten-year anniversary over 15 months in 2024 and 2025. Expect community events around the globe.”

The Elder Scrolls Online originally came out on April 4, 2014, for Windows and Mac to lukewarm reception because of lacking features and rampant bugs. However, it has improved massively since then with updates and expansions that make it stand among the best in the genre. ESO is available to play on both Xbox and PlayStation consoles spanning generations.
