Bandai Namco has revealed that it has recently canceled five games in development and plans on stricter quality control in the future in its earning report. The publisher has reported that the disposal of work-in-progress titles was made per internal rules regarding evaluation. Bandai Namco has also reported a 96.5% drop in income in its third fiscal quarter, which ended in December, compared to last year’s period.

The huge drop in income despite releasing several promising titles is likely due to Elden Ring selling many copies during the previous year’s third quarter. Bandai Namco reported in their statement that One Piece and Dragon Ball titles have done well during the period while also praising Armored Core 6‘s popularity.

However, the publisher also revealed that no title has been able to replicate the amount of copies sold by Elden Ring during last year’s third fiscal quarter, which is the primary reason behind the huge drop in income. A Bandai Namco representative stated,

We have changed our development structure since the second half of the previous fiscal year, setting stricter standards for proceeding with development, narrowing down titles, and recording development expenses.”
