The long-missing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake may finally return to the spotlight before the end of 2026.
According to a new report covered by Wccftech, developer Saber Interactive is moving closer to revealing the project after spending approximately three years rebuilding it from scratch.
“Development on the game has not only been ramping up, but it’s going extremely smoothly over the past 3 years since Saber started from scratch,” the insider said.
Eurogamer similarly reports that the remake could be re-revealed sometime this year.
“A reveal later this year has been planned,” 100% Star Wars then revealed, reinforcing previous claims that development under Saber has been progressing well.
That sounds promising, but it remains a rumor. Saber Interactive, Lucasfilm Games, and the other companies connected to the project have not announced a showcase date or confirmed that a new trailer is imminent.
KOTOR Remake Has Endured A Troubled Development

The remake was originally announced in 2021 with a brief cinematic teaser, but meaningful updates quickly dried up. Aspyr Media was initially attached as the lead developer before development reportedly shifted to Saber Interactive.
Saber subsequently maintained that work was continuing, even as the lack of footage and official communication left fans wondering what shape the remake would eventually take. Considering how badly players have wanted Knights of the Old Republic to be properly revived, another polished teaser probably will not be enough. Fans need gameplay.
The reported rebuild would also explain the unusually long silence. Reworking an RPG of this scale—particularly one based on a beloved BioWare title—is hardly a quick job. The original remains an important part of BioWare’s history and legacy, meaning Saber must modernize its combat, presentation, and exploration without stripping away its identity.
Aspyr, meanwhile, remains associated with several classic Star Wars releases and has even discussed the possibility of bringing back the Rogue Squadron games.
A 2026 Reveal Would Need To Show Real Progress
If the remake does resurface this year, Saber should clearly establish what players are getting. Combat footage, dialogue systems, party mechanics, platforms, and a realistic release window would do far more than another cinematic trailer.
There is also plenty happening elsewhere in the franchise, including Respawn’s Jedi Knight-inspired Star Wars project. KOTOR, however, occupies a very different corner of that universe—one built around role-playing freedom, companions, and consequential choices.
A 2026 reveal would be a major sign of life. Until Saber or Lucasfilm Games makes it official, though, this is one comeback worth treating with cautious optimism.
