Swen Vincke has confirmed via a tweet that he and Phil Spencer have found a solution to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox Series X|S this year. The game’s eventual release on Xbox has been one of the biggest hurdles for Larian Studios, and it seems like that won’t be the case for long. Unfortunately for Series S players, the game will not feature split-screen co-op, unlike Series X, but both platforms will have cross-save with Steam.
Super happy to confirm that after meeting @XboxP3 yesterday, we’ve found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox players this year still, something we’ve been working towards for quite some time.

Considering how the game is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 in the first week of September, this is great news for those who thought they would need to either purchase the Sony console to enjoy the game or wait a long time for the Xbox release. Larian Studios faced technical problems as the lower-end Xbox Series S console proved it nigh impossible to bring split-screen co-op functionality.
Due to the tough situation, the developers thought the game would not come to the Microsoft console until 2024, and even that wasn’t an official release window. As such, many fans already began calling it a “PlayStation exclusive,” but that should change now as Baldur’s Gate 3 is back on track for Xbox Series X|S. Even so, the developers could not solve the split-screen co-op puzzle and will release it without that feature.
All improvements will be there, with split-screen co-op on Series X. Series S will not feature split-screen coop, but will also include cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series,” says Swen Vincke.
The director of publishing at Larian Studios, Michael Douse, responded to the official announcement by saying, “Thrilled with this news. It’s been a long time coming, but what’s important is that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be coming to Xbox players. Because it isn’t exclusive.” Now that Baldur’s Gate 3 has been confirmed to be on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox by the end of this year, we can expect the game to reach even more gamers worldwide.
