Story Highlights
- The complete Mortal Kombat 1 character roster has seemingly surfaced online. The images of the character roster had initially appeared on the r/MortalKombat subreddit by the Reddit user Rearisen.
- The roster has 23 different playable characters and a single empty spot. The vacant slot could suggest that the character in question is tied to the game’s story and becomes accessible later.
- The footage for the Switch version was also shared online, which was taken down. The user pointed out that the cutscenes were full of stuttering and screen tearing, but patches before release may fix them.
- Mortal Kombat 1 is set to launch in about two weeks on September 19, 2023, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game is skipping last-gen for effective quality.
Mortal Kombat 1 has been among the most targeted games by leaks, and plenty of details have already spilled out to the public. Now, it has recently suffered one of the biggest leaks before its eventual release. The entire character roster of the title has leaked online on the web. The images and footage of the character roster had initially appeared on the official r/MortalKombat subreddit by the Reddit user Rearisen before being taken down.
Thankfully, Twitter and Reddit are chock-full of reuploads. We can still see the full character roster of the entry in one such Twitter post. The Twitch streamer Dynasty on Twitter was quick to share the leaked roster online. The image shows 23 different characters, but a single slot is empty for some reason. The vacant spot could suggest that the character is tied to Mortal Kombat 1’s story and becomes playable later.
Note: The roster is viewable by heading to the Twitter account. We are not sharing the list here directly because of potential spoilers. Proceed to the rest of the article with caution.

The Reddit user who shared the roster, alongside the full list of support fighters, had access to the Switch version of the game. The video featured footage from the Switch — now taken down — and the user also pointed out some issues in the current version of the game. There was reportedly a lot of stuttering and screen tearing during the start and end of cutscenes, as they elaborated in the comments of the video.
“I have an early copy, I would avoid on Switch as the performance isn’t up to par for a $70 title. Lots of lag whenever there is a lot of screen movement. This strange persistent screen glitch that tears the middle of the screen is the most jarring thing,” said the user.
The flawed performance and gameplay issues in the Nintendo Switch version are worrisome. Some players have panicked after seeing the screen stuttering. But the day one patch and the internal updates before the release of the game will likely fix the reported issues. We may not see these problems persist after Mortal Kombat 1 comes out for good on Switch.
Besides the 24 planned characters, the game will be getting an additional six figures, namely Omni Man, Takeda, Ermac, Quan Chi, Peacemaker, and Homelander, as part of a DLC. Gamers who pre-order Mortal Kombat 1 will get Shang Tsung as a playable character. On the other hand, buying the Premium Edition for the entry will grant players five days of early access.
Developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Games, Mortal Kombat 1 is slated to come out in about two weeks on September 19, 2023. It will be released for current-gen consoles, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The title is skipping last-gen, like most AAA games that are launching, to ensure the utmost quality and optimization for console releases.
