Helldivers 2 Is So Popular, It Has Fake Duplicates On Steam Now

The storm has passed as the fake Steam pages for Helldivers 2 have been taken down. The information comes directly from the game’s official Discord server. The community manager expressed their gratitude after making the announcement, thanking the community for promptly informing Arrowhead.

According to the CM, three pages were marketing fake games on the prominent digital storefront. Developers at Arrowhead warned the community about these imposter pages, stating that only two genuine versions exist. The legal team immediately reached out to Valve to get the matter sorted and as of this writing, the issue seems to have been resolved.

Helldivers 2 is an online co-op shooter that follows the GAAS model. Despite being structured as something that’s viewed in a rather negative light, the game has seen phenomenal success since its launch due to its fun gameplay and handling of GAAS elements. It reached the first milestone by surpassing God of War’s peak player count on PC, becoming the biggest launch of a PlayStation title on the platform.

Word of mouth spread quickly as the game went on to crush the all-time peaks of Bungie’s Destiny 2 and Bethesda’s Starfield. The shooter saw an intense influx of players following its launch and servers failed to accommodate the growing playerbase. This led to Arrowhead initially capping the CCU limit to allow smooth operation as the team worked on a solution.

Moreover, studio CEO John Pilestedt has been in the spotlight for his positive comments. Supporting the orientation process of new players instead of treating them as outcasts along with advising users to hold off on purchasing the game until the resolution of server issues has further contributed to the game’s success. 

Helldivers 2 launched on February 8, 2024, for the PlayStation 5 and PC.
