Baldur’s Gate 3 Has Sold About 15 Million Copies, Larian CEO Confirms

Here’s one game that’s seemingly receiving all the love and attention it deserves. Speaking to GameSpot in recent times, the CEO of Larian Studios — Baldur’s Gate 3 developer — while focusing on the RPG’s overall success, has confirmed that its sales are nearly double that of Divinity: Original Sin 2, which was earlier clocked to be somewhere around 7.5 million.

For those not in the know, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is yet another turn-based RPG by Larian, initially coming out for PC back in 2017. The Divinity franchise ran successfully for the Belgian studio over the course of its inception, with cumulative franchise sales crossing the 10 million mark supposedly. 

So, it’s almost double DOS 2 (Divinity: Original Sin 2), so it’s doing really really well. DOS 2 was very successful, so [Baldur’s Gate 3] did beyond what we expected,” said Swen.  

Larian Has A Bright Future To Look Forward To

Elsewhere in the interview, the Larian frontman confirms that the studio is working toward something that’s going to “dwarf” Baldur’s Gate 3, but this isn’t going to be Larian’s next title, which, according to Swen, is already in development and is another “big game.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 came out on August 3, 2023, for the PC, followed by subsequent ports to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S later in the year. The RPG, albeit being in early access since 2020 on Steam, earned a perfect 5/5 score in eXputer’s review, with author Huzaifah Durrani remarking, “Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the greatest RPGs of all time, and a testament to the talent of developer Larian Studios.”
