Overcooked! 2 Steam Beta Branch Update Adds Regional Matchmaking

"Out of the frying pan, into the fire…"

Overcooked 2 is a fast-paced game that brings out the dysfunctional character inside you. It is a co-op party game where you control adorable chefs that range from pandas to aliens to various animals. The title is reminiscent of Gordan Ramsay’s kitchen with all the chaos ensuing as you try to deliver out dishes within the running clock.

Overcooked 2 is among the best couch co-op titles to be relished with friends and family that test your relationships. It is among those non-violent games that manage to be incredibly stressful yet fun. The game features multiple game modes and provides an array of memorable moments.

Originally, Overcooked 2 was a couch co-op targetted for friends and family to be enjoyed but the game is broadening its horizons. Now Overcooked 2 is branching out its root into the realm of online multiplayer. Online matchmaking will soon be integrated into the original formula of the Overcooked series.

The patch notes state the good news of online matchmaking finally being released. “Following our previous update, we are now releasing an online matchmaking update! This is for the Steam beta branch only.” Online matchmaking has only been released for the beta branch and is in the testing phase.

The regional matchmaking will emphasize your location to match you with players with identical latency. The developers cited in the steam’s patch notes, “The game will now look to match players based on local geographic regions, matching those with similar latency to improve the overall online experience.”

The Steam page also mentions the multiplayer aspect with puns, “You’ll knead to work together (or against each other) to get the highest score in chaotic local and online multiplayer.” Developers are actively working on improving the game and implementing whole new ways to enjoy cooking dishes as you race with time.

Players will be able to relish the game with strangers when the online matchmaking is publically out. It will be quite difficult to function efficiently with strangers and may primarily end up in some controller-smashing scenarios.

Overcooked 2 has massively evolved from the prior installment while keeping the same premise. The game feels like a whole new experience instead of just an updated DLC for the next gen. Overcooked 2 is best enjoyed on a large TV screen, even though the game can also be enjoyed on platforms like Switch. What are your thoughts about the update? Let us know in the comments below.
