Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has a detailed skill tree; however, it can look a bit intimidating at first. There are three paths in the skill tree that you can take

  • The way of the Raven
  • The way of the Wolf.

Power System & Skill Points

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Power And Skill Points
Power and Skill Points Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  • In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the Skill Tree is powered by Skill Points.
  • You can get two skill points for each new XP level you achieve.
  • Once you have gotten your skill points, you can head over to the skill tree and unlock and acquire skills.
  • Each time you obtain a skill, minor or major, it will increase your Power Level at the bottom of the screen.
  • You will need to follow a specific path to get to the distinct ability you are trying to obtain.
  • That means you will have to unlock a few minor skills on your way to that primary Skill or ability.
  • Also, you might have to unlock quite a few major skills as well if the Major Skills are deep in the Skill tree.

Path Of The Raven All Skills (Assassin Path)

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Raven's Path

The first path we will be talking about is going to be the raven path. Most people also call it the Assassin path seeing that it has skills fine-tuned for killing. Most of these skills are flashy, along with being useful, so if you want a visually pleasing game, you will want these. The Raven path is going to glow yellow when you place your cursor over the skills and has a good variety of both melees and ranged abilities

Minor Skills

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Raven Skills

The Raven path is going to have the most variety of minor skills compared to the other two paths in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Skill tree. You can also find skills of both other paths scattered around here. These skills will buff up everything you got, from your hammer to smash your enemies to the predator bow to snipe them from afar. Unlocking these skills is going to be essential for you and make the game significantly more fun.

Abilities/Major Skills

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Abilities

Having a good mix of melee and ranged abilities is fun and exciting. However, some of these abilities will interfere with abilities in other sections of the skill tree in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. For instance, Advanced Assassination clashes with Warrior Takedown. So you will have to see if you want more flashy gameplay or go in and hack and slash your opponents.

  • Adrenaline Upgrade
  • Advanced Assassination
  • Assassin Carry
  • Assassin Slide
  • Assassin’s Cantrip
  • Auto-Loot
  • Backstab
  • Breakfall
  • Brush With Death
  • Chain Assassination
  • Counter Roll
  • Explosive Corpse
  • Guided Arrow
  • Intense Rage
  • Miasma
  • Missile Reversal
  • Mounted Archer
  • Predator Bow Combo
  • Raven’s Loot

Adrenaline Upgrade

You will see this ability pop up in each section of the Skill tree in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. It’s pretty useful to unlock, and once you have unlocked all three, it’s going to have a major impact on your gameplay. Adrenaline is a big part of fights, and having extra slots is going to give you a big advantage. Also, Some abilities are directly linked to your adrenaline, so it’s important you have a lot of adrenaline. With this ability, you get an extra Adrenaline slot.

Advanced Assassination

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Assassins are a big part of the game; however, there are some enemies which just refuse to go down when you try to assassinate them. Advanced Assassination will get rid of that problem for you allowing you to rip the heart out of any enemy. Just walk up behind an enemy and perform an assassination a small target will appear. You have to time it perfectly to pull off the assassination. Once you do, the enemies will be defeated.

Assassin Carry

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Assassin Carry

You can get stealth kills pretty easily in the game so that your cover is not blown, and you can progress further. However, the enemies discover the corpse and are alerted of your presence. Assassin Carry will allow you to pick up and relocate that corpse so that your cover is not blown. It’s going to come in quite handy if you are playing more of a stealth playstyle

Assassin Slide

"Assassin's

Assassin Slide allows you to drop enemies by blowing pins. It’s quite fun to use and also exciting to have the ability to slide in the game. You do need to be sprinting to perform the slide, but it’s going to be more fun than useful. You can do it in and out of combat, and it’s always fun to slide around the map. It’s going to be more useful if you are playing an aggressive playstyle

Assassin’s Cantrip

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Assassin's Cantrip

Sometimes combat can be a little too much, and you might want to reposition and regroup. With Assassin’s Cantrip, you can instantly get out of a sticky situation and come up with a strategy. Once you perform a successful parry, you can also use a smoke bomb to get out of the fight. Where the ability loses some of its potential has to be that you can not attack in the smoke.

Auto-Loot

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Auto-Loot Skill Tree

One of the most useful skills that you can unlock in the Raven path is going to be Auto-Loot. Not only will it come in handy constantly throughout your gameplay, but it is also passive, so you have to do nothing to activate it when you kill an enemy with melee weapons or perform an assassination. You will automatically loot them, saving you time in the heat of battle. It’s essential if you are playing with melee weapons.

Backstab

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Backstab
Backstab Skill Tree – [Image credit: eXputer]
One skill that you will want to unlock is Backstab, no matter your playstyle. It allows you to deal extra damage when hitting your enemy from behind, so it’s useful in any situation. Like most of the abilities, this one is not limited to melee or the bow and will be viable with both. It’s going to be the first skill you can unlock, and that boost in damage is going to help you out a lot in the early game.

Breakfall

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Skill Tree Breakfall
Breakfall Skill Tree

Dying to a fall can be one of the most annoying parts of any game. Lucky for you, Breakfall is here to save you from those untimely deaths. Breakfall does exactly what the name suggests, which is to break your fall. Now there are some situations you can still die from fall damage. Breakfall reduces the damage taken by a fall and does not cancel it out. So be weary not to start jumping off mountains or cliffs on low health.

Brush With Death

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Brush With Death
Brush With Death Skill Tree – Screenshot Captured by eXputer

Another flashy skill you can play around with and feel like a God is going to be Brush With Death. Brush with Death will slow down time, making it easier to assess the situation you are in. The slow effect will activate only when you dodge at the last moment, kind of like a parry but with dodging.

You can do it quite easily, and it doesn’t really need a lot of practice or skill. It’s a great ability to unlock as a beginner, and it’s pretty quick to unlock in the Skill tree in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Counter Roll

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Counter Roll
Counter Roll Skill Tree – Image Credit Copyright: eXputer

One ability that is going to get a bit aggressive and allow you to instantly gain the upper hand in a fight is Counter Roll. If you dodge toward an enemy while they perform a rune attack, you can roll over their back and get behind them. Now you can get in some free shots, and if you have to Backstab, it’s going to deal even more damage. You should unlock this if you are playing melee or an aggressive playstyle; it’s going to help you considerably.

Chain Assassination

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Chain Assassination
Chain Assassination Skill Tree – Image Credit Copyright: eXputer

You can perform multiple Assassinations with Chain Assassination unlock. Chain Assassination allows you to instantly assassinate a second enemy if you assassinate one enemy. It takes basically no time or resources, and you get a second kill for free. Since you will be performing assassinations anyway, you might as well get more kills from it.

Explosive Corpse

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Explosive Corpse
Explosive Corpse Skill Tree – Image Captured by us

One ability that’s going to be pretty fun and almost like a prank in the game is Explosive Corpse. It doesn’t have much practical use in combat but is really fun to play with when you are exploring and going around the map. Explosive Corpse allows you to booby-trap a corpse after a stealth kill. Once another enemy goes to investigate it, the bomb blows up and gets you another kill. This skill is going to be more fun than useful.

Guided Arrow

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Guided Arrow
Guided Arrow Skill Tree – Screenshot Grab: eXputer

One ability that is going to be exclusive to the Predator bow is going to be Guided Arrow. The ability is certainly an interesting one, to say the least. However, it might seem a bit too much or unrealistic. Guided Arrow lets you go into the first person’s mood as the arrow. Now you can guide it around and maneuver it through the terrain to pull off impossible shots. The enemies won’t know what hit them.

Intense Rage

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Intense Rage
Intense Rage Skill Tree – Image by eXputer

If you are going for a more aggressive playstyle, you should pick up Intense Rage. This ability will help you out a ton by ignoring incoming hits and keeping your focus on the task at hand. You can perform parry after parry without the fear of being interrupted by a hit that stops you in your tracks. The great part is the attack has a short cooldown allowing it to protect you multiple times in combat.

Miasma

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Skill Tree Miasma
Miasma Skill Tree- Image by eXputer

Similar to the Battlefield Cremation in the Bear Path, Miasma works the same way. The only difference is that Battlefield Cremation works with fire, and Miasma works with poison. Once you kill an enemy with a Poison attack, the corpse will start to release a cloud of poisonous gas. The cloud will damage all enemies who enter it, making for some easy kills.

Miasma is a great ability for crowd control and can help you reduce enemy numbers quickly. However, you should you weapons that inflict forceful poison damage instead of having a chance to damage the enemy with poison. That’s going to make sure you can get as much use out of Miasma as possible.

Missile Reversal

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Missile Reversal
Missile Reversal Skill Tree- Screenshot Grab: eXputer

Keeping it flashy and interesting in the raven path, we have Missile Reversal. Missile Reversal is an ability you won’t be using very often since it will be hard to activate it in combat. However, when you do, it is going to be one of the coolest tricks you can do. Missile Reversal allows you to catch a projectile that was launched at you and return it to the enemy instantly.

There are going to be a few problems you will face while trying to make Missile Reversal work. Firstly you wouldn’t be facing many situations in which you are being shot by javelins. Secondly, you might find out that it takes pretty good timing and awareness of your surroundings to pull it off. These do make it pretty hard to pull off; that’s why it feels much better when you do make it work.

Mounted Archer

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Mounted Archer

There are quite a few bow abilities that are scattered around the Skill Tree in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla guide. However, you are unable to use them while riding a horse. Mounted Archer provides an instant fix to that problem allowing you to use your abilities even if you are riding around. Although it might be a bit difficult to aim, the abilities will help you out significantly when you land those shots.

Predator Bow Combo

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Skill Tree Predator Bow Combo

This one is going to be a pretty simple skill and is also passive. If you are playing with the Predator, bow, you should definitely get Predator Bow Combo. Predator Bow Combo allows you to get in some extra damage if you are consistently getting some good headshots. The ability only works for the predator bow, so it’s only useful if you play with it. Otherwise, you can skip this one.

Raven’s Loot

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Raven's Loot

Another ability that is going to be a must-have while playing any playstyle is Raven’s Loot. The ability works pretty similar to Auto-loot but with a twist. Raven’s Loot works for ranged attacks, while Auto-loot is for melee attacks. Once you get a kill with a ranged weapon, your raven will gather up their loot and bring it to you. Having both of these abilities will make it so you never have to worry about looting again.

Way Of The Bear All Skills (Melee/Warrior Path)

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Bear Path

The Bear path is the path that starts above the ‘new beginning’ node. It lights up red when you place your cursor over any of the skills. There are numerous skills in each path. Way of the Bear is centered around more up close and personal combat. If you like to rush into danger and get your hands dirty, you will love these skills.

Minor Skills

Minor skills or buffed and scattered around the Skill Tree in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. These aren’t anything too special or exciting, but they do come in handy a lot. Minor skills provide you with small tweaks and buffs but stack up to really make a difference. Also, they are passive, so you don’t have to do anything. These buffs also affect your weapons, making them stronger and more effective.

Here are all the Minor skills in The Way of the Bear in alphabetical order

Abilities/Major Skills

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Bear Path Abilties
Bear Path Abilities Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – Image Credit Copyright: eXputer

The Abilities and Major skills in this path allow you to have an advantage in hand-to-hand combat. These go well with weapons such as axes and hammers. They give the ability to dual-wield two-handed weapons or play a one-handed weapon with a two-headed weapon. You get extra damage while performing melee attacks and can even make your Parry stronger. Overall if you like to rush the enemy and jump into action, the way of the bear is for you.

  • Adrenaline Fiend
  • Adrenaline Upgrade
  • Arrow Volley
  • Battlefield Cremation
  • Berserker’s Mettle
  • Cold Rage
  • Dual Swap
  • Fearless Leaper
  • Fight Ready
  • Heavy Dual Wield
  • Light Bow Combo
  • Longship Brace
  • Parry Damage
  • Perfect Attack
  • Shield Master
  • Sprint Bash
  • Stomp
  • Terror
  • Warrior Takedown

Adrenaline Fiend

If you have decided to go with the Path of the Bear, it means you like to rush into danger. There is no better able to assist you in that other than Adrenaline Fiend. Adrenaline Fiend is a free combat boost, and it will increase your damage and attack speed, making you a force to be reckoned with.

The damage and speed boost are directly connected to your adrenaline slots. Depending on how many slots you have filled, the effects of Adrenaline Fiend are increased. The effects are active once you have a single adrenaline slot filled. However, the more slots you fill up, the more boost you will get.

Adrenaline Upgrade

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Skill Tree Adrenaline Upgrade
Adrenaline Upgrade Skill Tree – Screenshot Grab: eXputer

This one is pretty basic; however, it is essential for an aggressive playstyle and works well with Adrenaline Fiend and Berserker range. Adrenaline Upgrade adds an extra adrenaline slot which is great but not too overpowered. However, paired with Adrenaline Fiend, it allows you to gain additional damage and attack speed. The three of these skills make quite a threatening trio and go hand in hand.

Arrow Volley

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Arrow Volley
Arrow Volley Skill Tree- Image by eXputer

One Ability that makes your Light Bow stronger and more effective is going to be the Arrow Volley. Arrow Volley allows you to charge up multiple arrows at once instead of shooting them one by one. All your arrows release in unison, and they do a burst of damage.

You do need a bit of stamina to do this, and it does take time to charge up, so keep that in mind. You will also be using up a lot more arrows, so keep an eye on your ammunition.

Berserker’s Mettle

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Berserker's Mettle

Another Adrenaline related ability is Berserker’s Mettle, and it goes without saying it has great synergy with Adrenaline Fiend. Moreover, Berserker’s Mettle is essential to have if you are playing an aggressive playstyle. At first look, it might not seem like much, but combined with Adrenaline Fiend, it is highly effective

Berserker’s Mettle allows you to tank a heavy attack from enemies, which usually depletes one of your Adrenaline slots. However, with Berserker’s Mettle, you can maintain that Adrenaline Slot while having the combat boost from Adrenaline Fiend.

Battlefield Cremation

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Battlefield Cremation
Battlefield Cremation Skill Tree – Image Captured by us

One ability that is pretty deep in the Skill Tree is Battlefield Cremation. Battlefield Cremation is one of the most overpowered abilities in the game but in the right situation. If you kill an enemy with a fire attack, the corpse will ignite and burn all nearby enemies.

Cold Rage

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Skill Tree Cold Rage
Cold Rage Skill Tree – Image Credit Copyright: eXputer

If you are going to be rushing in and taking enemies head-on, you will need Cold Rage. Cold Rage allows you to keep a cool head in the midst of battle and not get distracted when turning hits from enemies. You will be able to perform more consecutive attacks without being interrupted by incoming damage.

Dual Swap

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Heavy Dual Wield
Heavy Dual Wield Skill Tree – Image by eXputer

One of the more controversial Skills is going to be Dual Swap. Some players might find it very useful and fun to play around with it while others find it a be unnecessary. Dual Swap is only available for use when you are using a weapon in each hand. However, with the Heavy Dual Wield, you can even have a heavy weapon in each hand. The ability determines your special attack according to which weapon you have in your offhand.

Fearless Leaper

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Fearless Leaper
Fearless Leaper Skill Tree – Image by eXputer

You can use unlock Fearless Leaper and use it to make your leap attacks stronger. Fearless Leaper can be used in any situation, making it a great skill to have on hand. It boosts the damage of your normal leap attacks and allows you to make a leap attack from any height. So you can jump normally and then turn that into a leap attack dealing extra area damage.

Fight Ready

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Fight Ready
Fight Ready Skill Tree – Image by eXputer

Another great ability that complements Adrenaline Fiend is going to be Fight Ready. Fight Ready allows you to jump into battle prepared and give you a filled adrenaline slot. That means you will already have boost attack speed and damage from Adrenaline Fiend. Fight Ready is a passive ability, so you don’t have to do anything, thus, it is a must-have in the Skill tree of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Heavy Dual Wield

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Heavy Dual Wield
Heavy Dual Wield Skill Tree- Screenshot Grab: eXputer

Most heavy weapons deal massive amounts of damage, but they can with a few drawbacks. One of the major drawbacks is having to use both hands for a single weapon.

However, you can finally overcome this drawback by unlocking Heavy Dual Wield. Heavy Dual Wield allows you to hold a heavy weapon in one hand and a weapon of your choice in your off-hand. Moreover, you can also dual-wield two heavy weapons

Light Bow Combo

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Light Bow Combo
Light Bow Combo Skill Tree – Screenshot Grab: eXputer

You might be surprised to see that the light bow is present in the Bear Path, but it’s more of a close-range weapon anyway. Light Bow Combo is a basic damage boost that comes in handy if you are a good shot. If you can consecutively land your shots, the damage of each arrow is increased. Light Bow Combo allows you to take down enemies faster and without even having to aim too much.

Longship Brace

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Skill Tree Longship Brace
Longship Brace Skill Tree – Image Credit Copyright: eXputer

One of the abilities later added into the game is Longship Brace, but it seems a bit underwhelming. The concept of the ability is that when you are in charge of a longship, your crew follows your lead. So when you hold up your shield to take cover, so do the other crew members on the ship.

Perfect Attack

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Prefect Attack
Perfect Attack Skill Tree – Image Captured by us

A no-brainer on the list is the perfect attack skill. There are no cons to the Perfect Attack skill making it the perfect skill to have. You have to press the attack button again, and your next attack does increased damage. You can keep doing this, and if the timing is right, every attack will do extra damage to your enemies.

Parry Damage

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Skill Tree Parry Damage
Parry Damage Skill Tree- Image Credit Copyright: eXputer

Another must-have with no consequences is going to be Parry Damage. There are no downsides here, and it’s a straight-up upgrade, or you parry. With the Parry Damage skill, you will now get to deal damage with your well-timed Parries. Moreover, the parry still throws off the enemy, so you can also get in some free hits.

Combining the bit of damage with your attacks will help you take down enemies swiftly. The damage might not seem like a lot, but it buffs up a move that you were already using. All in All, you will want to have it unlocked.

Shield Master

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Shield Master
Shield Master Skill Tree – Image by eXputer

You will love shield master if you like to play with a Shield. It feels like cheating but is very helpful in fighting against a hoard of enemies. You can hold up your shield, and Eivor will auto-rotate to block attacks coming your way. So you can sit back and relax and focus solely on destroying your enemies. It might seem a bit too overpowered seem you longer need to aim, but it is still a viable option for new players.

Stomp

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Stomp
Stomp Skill Tree – Image by eXputer

When you choose the path of the Bear, stomp will be the first ability you come across, and you will have to unlock it to progress further. However, stomping is a great skill to have and comes with many benefits. The main is that when an enemy has fallen over, you have the opportunity to crash their skulls. Stomp does damage and also sends the enemies falling.

Sprint Bash

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Sprint Bash
Sprint Bash Skill Tree- [Image credit: eXputer]
This one is a bit of a filler ability with no real effective use. Sprint Bash goes well with your aggressive play style, but it serves no useful purpose. The most you can do is run uninterruptedly when encountered by an NPC, or you can go across breakable objects.

However, it is hard to unlock in the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Skill Tree since it is so deep. It’s not really worth unlocking, and you might as well save some skill points and unlock something else.

Terror

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Terror
Terror Skill Tree – Screenshot Grab: eXputer

One of the more defensive abilities in the Skill Tree in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is going to be Terror. It’s a situational ability and can get you some room to breathe. Terror’s main use is that it puts fear in the hearts of all weak enemies if you perform a stunning finisher on one of them.

That means they won’t attack you, and you can pick them apart one by one. However, it isn’t too useful and won’t be needed much if you are playing strategically.

Warrior Takedown

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Warrior Takedown
Warrior Takedown Skill Tree – Image by eXputer

The first ability to wrap the way of the Bear Skill Tree in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is Warrior Takedown. It again has great synergy with Adrenaline Fiend and Berseker’s Mettle. Warrior Takedown allows you to walk up any enemy and perform an execution. However, instead of a stealth takedown, it alerts all enemies in the area. Although it has, it gives you a massive advantage.

Path Of The Wolf All Skills (Ranged Path)

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Wolf Path
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Wolf Path – Image Captured by us

The right section of the Skill tree in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the Path of the Wolf. The Wolf path is also considered the ranged path or the ranger path. Path of the Wolf is centered more around playing from a distance and having good recon to know what is going on in your surroundings. If you are a player who loves to play with bows and arrows, these abilities will help you out a ton and allow you to play to your full potential.

Minor Skills

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Wolf Minor Skills

Similar to both the other paths, the wolf path is also loaded with Minor Skills. These will be important for you to grab to get to the Abilities and skills that will impact your gameplay. However, minor skills cannot be put aside so easily. They are as important as Abilities and really stack up and boost your normal attacks and stats. You will need to unlock as many of these minor skills as you can.

If you are playing a ranged playstyle, one thing you are always a bit short on is arrows. Having a steady supply of arrows is essential to playing at a range. A great source to gather arrows is from archers, but there is a random chance of you finding arrows or not. With Arrow Looter, you will find a lot more arrows on archers preventing you from running out. If you are an archer, you need Arrow Looter.

One of the most useful abilities that you can have when playing with a bow is Arrow Reinforcement. You will find the ability to be extremely potent in your missions. Arrow Reinforcement makes your arrows stronger, not in damage or range but physically. It buffs up your arrows so they never break. That allows you to collect and reuse them.

Arrow Reinforcement comes in handy when you are running low on ammo and run by some guards you killed earlier. Collect those arrows and reuse them to take down other enemies. Recycling your arrows will help you save up arrows for missions where they are really important.

You can use Battleground Bolt and pick up objects lying around. Once you have them, you can launch them at your enemies to deal damage to them without using your arrows.

The ability will allow you to perform a finisher from a distance on a stunned enemy. It’s pretty useful in the battle to finish an enemy and not have to go near them. You can also get some forceful knockback out of the attack, and that will come in handy as well.

Bows are going to be the main focus of the abilities in Wolf Path. Here’s another ability that focuses on making your hunter bow deadly and efficient. With Charged Shot, you can fully charge your arrow and release two arrows at the same time. That means you deal double the amount of damage in a single shot.

The ability does not seem to work with Hunter Bow Combo, so watch out for that. Charged Shot is only available for the Hunter Bow.

Another essential skill in any playstyle is going to be Grit. You will need to use melee weapons to activate this one, but it’s going to be quite helpful. It works to help you regain the health you lost from a recent attack. Once you have that damage, you can perform and land a melee attack and regain that health and cancel out the damage. It might feel a bit out of place in the Wolf Path.

A hunter bow-specific ability is going to be the Hunter Bow Combo. If you are a skilled bow user, you will find this ability quite useful. The ability works pretty simply. You have to time the release of your arrow with your full charge. If you release as soon as you fully charge the arrow, you can load the next one quicker.
