In BG3, the Dank Crypt is the first dungeon to have a grease and fire trap. Apart from the locked door in the end, having a treasure, players will come across strange undead lich Withers, bandits, and traps that are ready to burn them. Before players set their foot through the Ravaged Beach, they will need to have the best party composition to get the most from Dank Crypt.
- Dank Crypt is the first dungeon that players will face in BG3, having grease and fire traps.
- To reach the Dank Crypt, players should have a party level of a minimum of two and will need to go through the Ravaged Beach.
- The main door for the Dank Crypt is locked; however, in some cases, a lockpick may work.
- Throughout the Dank Crypt dungeon, players will come across bandits, vents, and traps that release grease and fiery darts.
- Apart from several items, players will interact with Withers, who will then be able to revive their characters in exchange for 200 Gold in BG3.
How To Complete Dank Crypt In BG3
Completing the Dank Crypt Dungeon near the Ravaged Beach in Baldur’s Gate 3 comes down traversing across the Sarcophagus with traps, going through the Bedchamber Ornate Door, and battling the Dead Scribes.Party Formation
Before you start the quest, I recommend to have your party level at a minimum of two. The reason for that is some significant threats waiting to sabotage you in the dungeon, but there is no official pre-requisite for completing the Dank Crypt BG3 dungeon.
- Shadowheart: having the ability to heal in BG3.
- Lae’zel: having melee combat and tanking attacks.
- Gale: having the ability to deal with AoE spells and crowd control.
- Astarion: having lockpicking abilities with a minimum of one trap-disarming kit.
Getting Into The Dank Crypt
At the Northeast end of the Ravaged Beach adjacent to the Overgrown Ruins waypoint is the Ancient Door in BG3, which is the main entrance for the Dank Crypt Dungeon. Since the main door is locked, perhaps you can try unlocking it by using a lockpick. Here are the steps I took to get inside the Dank Crypt:- There are three entrances to get inside the dungeon.
- Although all of these entrances are at the Chapel Entrance, all of them are pretty dangerous.
- Near the area, you will find bandits, making the first two entry points difficult.
- It is better to avoid these bandits as taking them on will require you to have level three or above.
Ornate Door
The first door that you will come across is the Ornate Door at the backside of the Chapel Entrance after Gimblebock and Taman. So, to use that gateway, you will have an encounter with Andorn along with other bandits. So be careful. The Collapsing Floor
You will see a rock hanging over a cracked stone floor near which the bandits Gimblebock and Taman will be talking. So, to enter the dungeon, you will need to:- Shoot at the coiled rope, after which the rock will drop on the cracked stone floor, breaking it completely and creating a hole in the area.
- Once that happens, you will see the Bedchamber section, and it is recommended you jump with the Feather Fall to get inside.
- Once you get in, bandits will spot you instantly, and now you will have to fight against them.
The Wooden Hatch
- Towards the east side of the Chapel Entrance, you will find a small cliffside path.
- Once you see it, keep following it till you reach a wooden hatch.
- Entering it will take you toward the backside of the Dank Crypt dungeon in Baldur’s Gate 3.
- However, getting in from the wooden hatch path makes you avoid the bandits, but since you reached the backside of the dungeon, it is difficult to get to the important areas from there.
Sarcophagus And Traps
Supposing you enter the dungeon by unlocking the Ancient Door, you will soon come across the Sarcophagus. Moreover, if players have the ability to pass perception checks, they will notice grease traps placed all around the room.In the dungeon, I experienced:
- A pillar with a switch right next to the statue figure in BG3 Dank Crypt.
- So, before you open up the Sarcophagus, remember that as soon as you open it, multiple traps will activate.
- All the vents present in the dungeon will release grease.
- For players using the turn-based mode, the grease trap will be followed by fiery darts flying out of the walls from left and right.
- So, if the players are covered in grease, the fiery darts will make them catch fire instantly.
How To Avoid Traps
Here is what I recommend for avoiding traps:
- Pressing the switch on the pillar as soon as the grease trap activates.
- Use the disarm toolkit on each vent to block out the grease.
- In case you did not include someone with that ability in team composition, you can block the grease by simply putting objects like crates in front of the vents.
- in case of fire, you can use the Create/Destroy Water Spell that will temporarily get you rid of grease and fire.
- Once you are well prepared for all the traps, open the Sarcophagus to get the Watcher’s Guide and the Engraved Key, found near the room with the book of the Dead Gods.
Bedchamber And Ornate Door
Once you get the Engraved Key after opening the Sarcophagus, you will need to use it on the Heavy Oak Doors to the North to get to the next room.- Here, you will find multiple treasures lying around waiting to be picked, where you’ll find the following four treasures:
- Gilded Chest: located toward the east wall containing a Ruby Ring.
- On Death & Resurrection: a book right next to the Gilded Chest.
- 2 Luxury Chests: toward the west, one containing 20 Gold and one containing three spell scrolls.
- Once you are done farming these treasures, you will see two sets of doors.
- One door will be heading North while the other will be heading West.
- In order to go toward the Bedchamber, you will need to go through the door towards the West.
- As you follow the path, you will see a locked door with no sign of how to open it.
- Moreover, what is eerie about the door is that behind it, you will hear strange voices.
- Now, to open the door, you will need to get to the other side first.
- For that, you will need to either enter from the Ornate Door or from the Collapsing Floor.
- Apart from the bandits, there you will see the Wizard’s statue, behind which there is a button, and pressing it will open the door.
The Dead Scribes Battle
As soon as you enter through the door, you will notice corpses of Entombed Scribe and Entombed Warrior. There, you will have to go to every corpse and loot whatever they have, even if the item is not valuable.
- Then, go towards the small room that is on the west side of the area.
- There you will need to read the Book of Dead Gods to get spell scrolls by unlocking a valuable chest.
- Moreover, you will also find a Sarcophagus. Loot it to get a Soul Coin.
- Once you are done with farming, head back to the main room.
- However, on your way back, you will see a switch while checking traps.
- Pressing the switch will open a door, along with bringing the Entombed dead to life.
- Since you looted the corpses earlier, these creatures will be easier to defeat.
The Secret Tomb
As you get done with them, go through the door that opened from the switch in the Dank Crypt of BG3. It will lead you right toward a secret tomb. There you will find a valuable chest having the Amulet of Lost Voices and 93 Gold. Lastly, you will need to open the new Sarcophagus, which will trigger a cutscene. In it, you will see an undead and intelligent creature named Withers. He is friendly and will ask you certain cryptic questions. Once the cutscene ends, you will find him next to your campsite. Not only will he become friendly, but he will also help you in reviving the dead characters. However, each revive will cost you 200 Gold.
All in all, to complete Dank Crypt BG3, you will need to be careful of the traps, vents, and bandits. Therefore, I recommend having a party formation that mainly consists of characters who possess either damage abilities or lockpicking skills. Throughout the dungeon, you will come across multiple chest boxes, each with Gold and other unique items in BG3. Of course, if you’re struggling to complete the dungeon, consider reading the best one-handed weapons in Baldur’s Gate 3.
