Baldur’s Gate 3 has revealed its file size in the latest community update; it’s a whopping 122 GB. Larian’s fantasy role-playing game is set for launch on August 3, 2023, at 5 PM Gent time, or your timezone equivalent. Unfortunately, the devs confirmed that players won’t be able to preload the game before this time. Considering that even Early Access participants are required to reinstall, this creates a bit of an extra step to complete.

The third entry in the iconic Baldur’s Gate series has been in Early Access for almost three years. Countless players have shaped the final release of this game by providing essential feedback to the developers. Given the sheer scale of this RPG, having released a partial version back then provided an advantage to Larian Studious as their creative vision was supplemented with practical player data.

That being said, those who’ve been a part of this universe since the beginning would have to start over. As this was previously disclosed on the Steam page of the latest Baldur’s Gate, those who got into the game were most likely aware of this eventuality. Larian has expressed how so much has changed during these three years that it’s really worth starting afresh.

Aside from the details regarding the file size of the upcoming RPG, Larian has stated that the game will be cross-save compatible at launch due to its own accounts system. Further elaborating on the feature, the developers clarified that players can start their journey on PC or Steam Deck and continue the adventure on their PS5 once that version is released. Of course, you’ll have to buy the game separately for that device.

In the case of Baldur’s Gate’s third entry, a file size this large is somewhat understandable. The game’s said to have around 17,000 endings and given its nature, it’s easy to connect the dots. However, this still raises the question of games taking up too much space in modern times and the lack of file compression.
