Many Diablo 4 players have been met with the ‘Unable to find a valid license’ error. Console players have been the primary victims of this, as game sharing is the leading cause. However, it can also be caused when the servers are down.
The major disappointing thing is that the issue prevents players from accessing the game entirely. However, fret not, as the solutions I gathered are easy to follow.
Try the following fixes for unable to find a valid license:
- Check Server Status.
- Disable Game Sharing.
Check Server Status For Outages
As the issue is linked to the servers, the very first thing I recommend is to check their status. If the servers aren’t working, so is your ability to log in. This has been the leading cause, as reported by players online after the game came out of closed beta. As this is Blizzard we are talking about, this can be due to maintenance or an overload.
So, all you need to do is visit Down Detector. If you see a lot of reports like in the example, the servers are down, which is most likely why Diablo 4 can not find a valid license. All you can do in this scenario is wait until the servers are back up again.
Disable Game Sharing
A solution that used to work in the beta was to turn game sharing off. For Xbox users especially, this is typically why the error pops up. I believe the reason is how the license works on the back end; the servers probably use it to verify one game session per account.
As a result, if the servers find multiple people, they forcefully log you out. So, to combat this, you will have to turn game sharing off.
- Important: You can only switch your home console five times a year for Xbox. So, be mindful when doing this.
This is how you can achieve that on an Xbox:
- Go to Settings > Personalization > My Home Xbox.
- Press Remove this as my Home Xbox.
Once done, launch Diablo 4 and check if the issue persists.
My Thoughts On Unable To Find A Valid License Error in Diablo 4
I have always enjoyed Diablo, but consistently encountering error codes has started to drive me away. Talking about the error on display, it would initially pop up because Diablo 4 did not allow game sharing in Early Access.
Are you getting an error? If you are getting the 315306 then give us your BattleTag and PSN ID and we'll forward that to the team looking into it. ~V

However, this was addressed in the full release. So, the error was repurposed to be a server unavailability message. These days, while not widespread, people still report facing it on the Blizzard Forums and Reddit.
This is generally when the servers go down for maintenance or other reasons like a DDoS Attack. However, whatever the reason, the Official Blizzard CS Twitter handle quickly acknowledges it. Subsequently, the problem is addressed as well.
[#Bnet] We continue to actively monitor an ongoing DDOS attack which is affecting latency/connections to our games.

In either case, I am hopeful you will have a sense of direction of what to do with the issue now. However, if not, my final suggestion will be to contact Blizzard Support. At this stage, the game might be unable to find a valid license because of a back-end issue, which only they could resolve.
