Story Highlights Baldur’s Gate 3 has jumped to become the best-selling pre-order on PSN. The impressive sales are thanks to the game’s massive success on PC. Accumulating well over half a million concurrent players on Steam, Baldur’s Gate 3 is also on its way to becoming Steam’s biggest launch this year, with only Hogwarts Legacy standing in its way. Baldur’s Gate 3 was expected to do well, considering that the game had been in development for over 6 years, including 3 years in early access. After the full release on PC on August 3, the game performed beyond expectations. Within only 6 hours, Baldur’s Gate 3 had over 470,000 concurrent players, which is incredible since the game takes up nearly 122 GB of storage with no preload. Related Reads Baldur’s Gate 3 has continued performing well, making us wonder just how long the hype train will be. Since the PlayStation 5 release is scheduled for September 6, console gamers have had enough time to see the game’s quality, so it is only natural that we see a surge in PSN pre-orders. And while the PC launch contributed massively to its imminent success on the console, there is another big factor that Benji-Sales pointed out. The untold story about Baldur’s Gate 3 success is I think this tapped into the market that’s been dying for a new Dragon Age game for years. Gameplay isn’t the same, but I’m seeing a lot of evidence of BG3 / Dragon Age fanbase overlap,” says Benji-Sales. Although no concrete evidence supports that claim, it is a more sensible explanation for the surge in players days after the game’s release. Baldur’s Gate 3 will likely continue to be the topic of every conversation since it will take players over 200 hours to complete fully. It contains immense freedom that every Dungeons and Dragons player would love, and it has proven itself as one of the greatest RPGs of all time. Thanks!
