Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Has An Insane Storage Requirement

For a complete installation of the game, 213 GB of storage space is the bare minimum.

Story Highlights

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is an upcoming shooter and the third Modern Warfare reboot.
  • The game’s file size has been a worry for players across the board ever since its beta went live.
  • As per the official specs requirement, 213 GB of space is required for the full MW3 experience.

If you plan on playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as soon as it comes out, then you better be a major Call of Duty fan. Because that’s the only game you’ll be playing on your PC afterward, given the amount of storage it requires for a full install. Seriously, though, things look insane here, setting players back about 213 GB if they want the complete single-player, multiplayer, plus hi-rez assets download on their end.

Activision, in a new Call of Duty blog post, has unveiled the PC specs requirement for the upcoming Modern Warfare reboot, among other features heading toward the title on the platform in question. For starters, both COD HQ and the multiplayer mode of Modern Warfare 3 will take around 78 GB of space. This is the bare minimum of storage that will at least let you play the FPS on your PC.

For those wanting to venture the next step, proceeding in line is the single-player mode of the title, which, combined with COD HQ and multiplayer, demands a total of 149 GB minimum on PC. But wait, that’s not it just yet. Those wanting the ultimate Modern Warfare 3 experience will be enticed to download the additional hi-resolution assets for the game, which further take up to 64 GB of storage.

Combine that with the previously established 149 GB and you get 213 gigs of space right there—a real whopper of a requirement for the full-blown installation of Modern Warfare 3. On the bright side, the devs have kept it fairly doable — simply 79 GB — for those not wanting to mess around with the extras i.e. the campaign and the hi-rez data that takes the storage requirement to the next realm.

As the news makes its way over to Reddit, one person comments, “At this point, they should just install COD on an entire SSD and sell that as the new disc format.” Another one of the best-liked remarks on the post reads, “Call of Duty 2025 1TB required. Calling it now.”

As I struggle to take my eyes beyond the SSD part, Modern Warfare 3 will be fairly welcoming in terms of other demands toward the hardware. The “Minimum” section says that players will need an Intel Core i5-6600 or AMD Ryzen 5 1400 processor, 8 GB RAM, 2 GB video memory, and an inexpensive NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960/GTX 1650 or AMD Radeon RX 470 GPU to get things going.

In other news, Modern Warfare 3’s trophy list leaked online in recent times, putting out minor spoilers for the title’s single-player campaign. Moreover, back when the PlayStation beta went live for the first-person shooter, players saw hacking and glitching running rampant, thereby forcing the devs to take action right away.

Modern Warfare 3 will make landfall on November 10, 2023, for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
