Now, however, it’s back with another sales event that you’re going to love, calling it Critics’ Choice this time.

In the wake of the occasion at hand, you’ll find dozens of deals on the PlayStation Store right now, but not all of them are worth the time and effort. That is why I’ve taken it upon myself to highlight the gems of the spotlight that certainly deserve player attention. Read ahead for a comprehensive round-up of the best PlayStation Store discounts at the moment that you just can’t sleep on.

1. Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077
Night City in Cyberpunk 2077
  • Release Date: December 10, 2020
  • Genre: RPG, First-Person Shooter, Action
  • Developer: Cyberpunk 2077

Starting off the listicle is a once-disastrous RPG that has slowly but surely picked up its pace to become one of the finest games to play in 2024. Cyberpunk 2077’s redemption arc is as real as it gets folks, with developer CD Projekt Red staying relentless after the way things went at the time of the game’s launch in December 2020. Compared to how the game plays out, its previous stature is an ancient relic at this point.

Behold a visually striking RPG with deep gameplay elements and a neatly curated open-world design that’s as chaotic as you’d like it to be. Thanks to CDPR never giving up on its project and always having its game-changing Update 2.0 mapped out, Cyberpunk 2077 is definitely worth picking up in 2024, especially now that it’s a cool 40% off on the PS Store.

2. Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon lives up to its hype.
Armored Core 6
  • Release Date: August 25, 2023
  • Genre: Third-Person Mecha Shooting, Action-Adventure
  • Developer: FromSoftware

FromSoftware’s next major project after finishing things up with Elden Ring is the continuation of the iconic Armored Core franchise of third-person mecha shooters. Fast-forward from its release date to the present day, the title is a success in Japan with more than 700,000 units sold, all because of its incredible gameplay, extensive customization options, and vast mission variety.

eXputer rated the game 4.5/5.0 in its review, with my colleague Huzaifah Durrani remarking, “Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon effectively revives a franchise many of us thought dead, and it does so with incredible spectacle at that.” It’s available at 30% off on the PlayStation Store for both the PS4 and PS5 versions, along with the Deluxe Edition of the title which is going for $48.99 right now—also 30% off at that price.

3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – Cross-Gen Bundle

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
  • Release Date: November 10, 2023
  • Genre: First-Person Shooter, Multiplayer
  • Developer: Sledgehammer Games

Moving forward, we’ve got an industry giant at our disposal in the name of Modern Warfare 3, the latest Call of Duty game to arrive at the forefront of this iconic franchise. At 30% off, this one’s coming for $48.99 for the PlayStation 5, letting you save about $20 or so in the wake of it. This time around, some of the upgrades Activision has implemented revolve around a refined movement system, more weaponry, and maps to play with.

Modern Warfare 3 got a 2/5 rating in eXputer’s review, primarily because of its awful narrative and bad mission design when it boils down to the campaign solely. However, the gunplay is great, the graphics are phenomenal, and the performance is smooth, so if you’re a fan of first-person shooting, this one will keep you hooked for the years to come.

4. EA Sports FC 24

EA Sports FC 24
EA Sports FC 24
  • Release Date: 29 September, 2023
  • Genre: Football Simulation, Single-Player/Multiplayer
  • Developer: EA Sports

The virtual world of footballing was fairly concerned over the news of EA severing its long-time partnership with international football body FIFA back in May 2022, thinking about how the future of FIFA games will look like now. Apparently, not a sliver of anything bad came for the latter, with EA rebranding the franchise to “EA FC” and then dropping EA FC 24 without breaking a sweat.

In September, therefore, the latest football simulator by EA that the whole world is immersed in. The game surpassed 14.5 million players 4 weeks into launch, and ended 2023 as the best-selling game in the UK, despite coming out only two months or so before 2023’s conclusion. If you’re a football fan, EA FC 24 is a massive 65% off on the PS Store, with its MSRP reduced to $24.99 as of right now.

5. Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy Mod
Hogwarts Legacy
  • Release Date: February 10, 2023
  • Genre: Action-Adventure, Open-World, RPG
  • Developer: Avalanche Software

Everybody’s favorite Harry Potter game (although there’s not a sight of the guy in the game) has been discounted by 40% at the time of writing on the PS Store, which brings its pricing down to $41.99. Over 5 days ago, it was reported that the action-adventure rolled over 24 million copies to date while ending 2023 on a fantastic note and becoming the top-selling new release of the year.

Suffice to say that the title has broken record after record with its gargantuan success, so there’s no reason you shouldn’t be giving it a go now that it’s discounted as well. And even though EA FC 24 was 2023’s best-seller in the UK, Hogwarts Legacy was actually crowned as the biggest physical release of the year in that region, to no one’s surprise, of course.

6. Mortal Kombat 1

Mortal Kombat 1 Review Gameplay
Mortal Kombat 1
  • Release Date: September 19, 2023
  • Genre: Fighting, Action
  • Developer: NetherRealm Studios

Long-time fighting-oriented video game franchise Mortal Kombat has seen a reboot in the name of Mortal Kombat 1, a next-gen iteration of the series that doesn’t just walk the walk, but talks the talk as well with its refined gameplay, terrific visuals, and a variety of different modes. You can get the title for about $41.99, which is 40% off the game’s default cost of $69.99.

If eXputer’s review of Mortal Kombat 1 is anything to go by, expert author Asad Ahmed rated the game 4.5/5.0 and called it “a triumphant return to form for the franchise.”

7. Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Release Date: October 26, 2018
  • Genre: Action-Adventure, Free-Roam, Single-Player
  • Developer: Rockstar Games

One would argue that they don’t make games like Red Dead Redemption 2 anymore, considering how this title is loaded from top to bottom with depth, accuracy, and sheer quality of life. The sequel to the 2010-released Red Dead Redemption has gone on to win a range of different distinctions at The Game Awards 2018 for all that it brings to the table, so do me a favor and pick this one up—you won’t regret it.

8. Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut

Ghost Of Tsushima
Ghost Of Tsushima
  • Release Date: July 17, 2020
  • Genre: Action-Adventure, Open-World
  • Developer: Sucker Punch Productions

Ghost of Tsushima is one of the finest exclusives that the PlayStation consoles ever had the privilege to grace, frankly speaking. Rip-roaring samurai action, an extremely well-written story sporting a rollercoaster of emotions, and a breathtaking world to explore and take on the mantle of the Ghost in. This one has it all, and in case you haven’t tried it out yet, now’s your time to pounce at the opportunity.

The game’s Director Cut version is available on sale right now, which is inclusive of the phenomenal Iki Island expansion, the Legends co-op mode, and a wealth of other content. At 58% off, you can get the title for as low as $29.39 right now, and take it from me, that is a bargain for a title as good as Ghost of Tsushima.

9. Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Assassin's Creed Mirage
Assassin’s Creed Mirage
  • Release Date: October 5, 2023
  • Genre: Action-Adventure, Free-Roam, Stealth
  • Developer: Ubisoft Bordeaux

Ubisoft has finally stepped in the direction of restoring the charm of the legendary Assassin’s Creed franchise back to its former glory with the release of Mirage, a Baghdad-based action-adventure with fresh gameplay and visuals. Even though the title has been discounted multiple times before as well, it’s certainly no harm for us to see it land on the PS Store again with a 30% off pricing.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage received a 3.5/5.0 rating in eXputer’s review, with Usama Mehmood remarking, “Despite its problems, Mirage genuinely feels like a love letter to the games in the series that kickstarted its legacy.”

10. Doom Eternal

classic FPS games like valorant
Doom Eternal
  • Release Date: March 20, 2020
  • Genre: FPS, Action
  • Developer: id Software

Cutthroat, no-nonsense, and brutal killings await you in this adrenaline-fueled first-person shooter by id Software and Bethesda Softworks for what is otherwise part of one of the pioneering franchises of the first-person genre itself. Doom Eternal is one whale of a good time, available for cheap right now at merely $9.99, should you find yourself interested.

Takeaway – An Amazing Potential For Savings Realized

If you own a PlayStation console in the day and age we live in today, where arguably some of the best games ever made are out and about, let the official PlayStation Storefront serve as a helpful companion to help you gather up some solid titles to play throughout the year right now. My personal favorites include Ghost of Tsushima, Doom Eternal, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage—all great; fairly enjoyable.
