EA FC 24 Ends 2023 As The UK’s Best-Selling Game

Trailing just behind in the UK's boxed charts Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Story Highlights

  • EA Sports FC 24 is the first football game to be released by EA after severing ties with FIFA in 2022.
  • The game has ended up becoming the best-selling boxed and digital release of 2023 in the UK.
  • Other titles that have trailed behind include Hogwarts Legacy, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and GTA 5.

I’m going to be honest, people were frantic when the news of EA splitting with the international football body FIFA broke out, speculating whether the FIFA video game franchise of football simulators would still be in the picture going forward. Turns out, EA continues to reign supreme, with its very own EA FC 24 ending up as 2023’s best-selling title in the UK, according to data fetched by GSD.

The data goes for both physical and digital sales in the past year, focusing on the UK region specifically—just so you know. In terms of physical sales alone, the results are a tad bit different, with the Harry Potter-inspired RPG Hogwarts Legacy taking center stage as 2023’s biggest boxed release in the UK. As for the new rankings, here are all the games that have managed to claim a spot in the top 10 list this time around:

  • EA Sports FC 24 (EA)
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Activision Blizzard)
  • Hogwarts Legacy (Warner Bros)
  • Super Mario Bros Wonder (Nintendo)
  • Grand Theft Auto 5 (Rockstar)
  • Spider-Man 2 (Sony)
  • Mario Kart 8: Deluxe (Nintendo)
  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (Ubisoft)
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (Rockstar)
  • Nintendo Switch Sports (Nintendo)

Additionally, GSD has come up with console sales tracking as well with the year ending 2023. Sony’s PlayStation 5 has ended up as 2023’s best-selling home video game console in the UK, with Nintendo Switch entering second place, and Xbox Series X|S landing on the third spot. Moreover, game accessories, such as controllers, stands, and other items sold a whopping 63% more than the units in November.

In other news, EA was quick to report back in November that FC 24 has clocked an enormous player count in a span of just 4 weeks following its release. “Within the first four weeks after worldwide launch, over 14.5 million fans have played FC 24 on console and premium PC, including double-digit growth in new players,” stated the fiscal year report, signaling the success of the newly launched simulator.

EA FC 24 traces its release back to September 29, 2023, launching across the board for multiple platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It is the first football game by EA that comes without the FIFA branding, following the severing of the partnership between EA and FIFA.
