Earth Defense Force 5 Has Sold 1 Million Copies Worldwide

PlayStation has a wide array of exclusive games available for the players on the console. What makes it stand out is that besides the popular AAA games, it has many more first-party titles. A lot of these are made in their country of origin, Japan, and they really broaden the horizon of the console.

Some of these games are popular worldwide, like Persona 5 and FINAL FANTASY. However, a lot of them become a hit in Japan but don’t see much recognition in other markets. One popular console exclusive title for the PlayStation is Earth Defense Force.

Beside a few releases on the Xbox 360, Earth Defense Force Series has stayed on PlayStation consoles. It is really popular in Japan and also has a loyal fanbase in other Sony markets. One of its most recent games, Earth Defense Force 5, has recently reached a big milestone. 

According to a recent tweet from the official account for Earth Defense Force on Twitter, the fifth main installment has now sold one million copies worldwide. The game reached this milestone nearly five years after its original release. Earth Defense Force 5 came out in December 2017, just a bit shy of the five-year mark.

It got rather positive reviews from players and critics at the time of its original release. By the looks of it, that original reception has held up as it has reached this milestone after some time. Earth Defense Force 5 had the task of beating Earth Defense Force 2017 and had a tremendous initial performance in regions outside Japan. 

Nearly 200,000 of its 330,000 sales were in North America and Europe. Hence, the game was a huge success worldwide for D3 Publisher and also came out on the Xbox 360. However, with its current sales number, we can say that Earth Defense Force has done an outstanding job on its end.

Besides that, players also adore the game and consider it a worthy successor to Earth Defense Force 4.1. Hence, this sales number of one million is a good reflection of how promising the game is. With another game following Earth Defense Force 5 soon, the franchise shows no sign of stopping.

The much-anticipated next main installment in the series following the fifth one is releasing this month. Earth Defense Force 6 is launching on August 25th, 2022, in just a week.
