It is an immersive Open-world Action RPG that takes place in the vast and beautiful world of Wizarding created by J.K. Rowling. The player will explore the castle of Hogwarts to reveal the dark secrets behind its walls. Players will explore Hogwarts of the 1800s.

Since Hogwarts Legacy is based in the 1800s, we cannot meet any major characters from the Harry Potter series. However, the player’s actions will be a turning point for Hogwarts. This will impact the future generations of Hogwarts. Here’s everything we know about Hogwarts Legacy so far.

The Setting Of Hogwarts Legacy

As mentioned before, Hogwarts Legacy is a game that precedes the events of Harry Potter, which means that Harry Potter has no influence on the story of Hogwarts Legacy. The setting, as suggested by the game’s name, is the same Hogwarts that we all know and love. The only difference is that the events in the game occur during the 1800s. 

Because of these circumstances, the game will be the deciding factor in Hogwarts’ future. The castle grounds of the beautiful academy have been recreated in the game. They are utterly breathtaking and extremely detailed. The developers have done an extremely good job of making Hogwarts as majestic as it is in the novels and the movies

Furthermore, the quality of life is amazing as well. NPCs do not feel like statues just standing in front of each other. They appear to be talking, playing, and even performing spells as practice in the halls. The common rooms are extremely well-made, and each one of them is designed to match the lore of the different houses of Hogwarts. We get to see the Hufflepuff common room in one of the gameplay showcases and it is breathtaking. 

The Open World And Exploration

As we know Hogwarts Legacy is an Open-world game which means that we can explore every corner of Hogwarts without any restrictions. Hogwarts is a huge castle meaning that it has many secrets hidden everywhere. Collectibles, quests, and many other little passageways with little secrets in them. Furthermore, players are actually encouraged to explore so that they can unlock all the different items and discover hidden things in Hogwarts.

In addition to the spells, Hogwarts Legacy brings unique ways of traversing its massive open world. There are 3 main methods of traveling in the open world.

• Magic Brooms
• Magical Beasts
• Fast travel

First, the magic brooms are the main method of traveling in Hogwarts Legacy. Using the brooms, the players can soar through the skies of the world outside the castle walls. The world doesn’t end inside the walls of Hogwarts. To explore the world on the outside, we need brooms for traveling. You can buy the brooms from the broom store in Hogsmeade.

In addition to the brooms, magical beasts are another method of traveling in Hogwarts Legacy. Players can tame beasts and use them in a few ways, including traveling. The beasts used for traveling are Hippogriffs and Thestrals. Hippogriffs are the same beasts as Buckbeak from Prisoners of Azkaban. Lastly, the final method of traveling is fast travel. But it is an open-world game, and the best way to go places is by using the other two methods. This will allow you to explore secrets and unlock many different things.

Gameplay And Combat

Hogwarts Legacy is an action RPG game that implements different spells from the books. Many may be the same, but a lot of them are also original and completely different than the ones in the books. The game uses the same formula as an RPG game. You have a few slots in which you can put your spells. As you level up, the number of slots will increase. This will allow you to use more spells.

Because of the increased number of spells, you will now be able to use more combos in combat. Spells are your main assets for combat in Hogwarts Legacy. You can use a lot of different spells in combat. Many will be attack spells, and others will be support spells.  Support spells can be levitation and pulling spells that you can use to shorten your distance between enemies. 

In addition to these combat spells, there are a few spells that you will use in exploration called essential spells. One of those spells is called Revelio. This will allow you to reveal hidden secrets as you explore the open world. These spells are not slot-able and are in use all the time. Hence, they are mapped on the D-pad. 

Moreover, there are a few types of spells too. In addition to the simple magic spells, you can access Dark Arts in the game as well. These Dark Arts include many types of curses, including the killing curse, Avada Kedavra. We know that Hogwarts Legacy will have a lot of spells, so players should try their best to find all of them. Story Of Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy is somewhat of a prequel to the Harry Potter series. Although it is not directly related to Harry Potter, it is confirmed that the events in the game are related to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling is not involved in the making of this story. Instead, Avalanche Software is the one who wrote the story of this game. They have been making many games related to Warner Bros, and Hogwarts Legacy will be one of them.

The story follows our protagonist, that is a latecomer to Hogwarts. He is the age of a fifth year, so he must catch up with all the years before the year’s end. But he has a special talent that allows him to use ancient magic. The ancient magic is incomprehensible even to his teachers. Along with this, the protagonist must discover the secrets of Hogwarts, which will also shape its future.

There hasn’t been much revealed about the story so far. We only know that there is a goblin rebellion underway and it has something to do with the abilities of our protagonist. The ancient magic part is also fairly unknown so far. However, there are a few theories here and there that can explain why the protagonist has such powers. 

In fact, a Reddit user, u/smokediza made a theory post in the r/HarryPotterGame subreddit about a very peculiar theory. In this post, he claims that it is possible for the protagonist to be the descendant of Merlin. It makes sense because the game hints towards Merlin a lot by using many puzzles. He is also capable of using ancient magic so this theory is not far-fetched at all. But for the full story, we must wait for the game to release. 

Side Content In Hogwarts Legacy

As we know, Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world game meaning that it has a plethora of side content. That includes side quests, minigames, arenas, challenges, and much more. Side quests can be accessed within Hogwarts and outside by talking to NPCs. Side quests may include a variety of different tasks, like finding someone’s lost things or solving a certain puzzle. 

Moreover, minigames and challenges can be found in the game which you can play for some fun. Sadly, the Quidditch minigame is not a thing in Hogwarts Legacy. Quidditch was not invented around the time of this story, but other minigames can still be found here and there. According to the FAQ section of the official Hogwarts Legacy website, there are a few race challenges that you can do on the broom. 

In addition to these minigames, arenas are also present in the game, which allows the player to engage in combat against different types of enemies. One of the arenas includes the Darks Art Arena, which you can unlock by pre-ordering the game according to the Steam page. You can also benefit yourself with a few cool items from the preorder. 

Besides all these, there is a special room called “Room of Requirement.” This room is like a hub room for the player, and here you can grow plants for portions, grow beasts of all kinds, and store any items that you will use on your journey through Hogwarts.

The Developers And Publishers Of Hogwarts Legacy

As mentioned before, we know that Hogwarts Legacy is being developed by Avalanche Software. The game is being published by Warner Bros. Avalanche games is a very reputable game development studio that creates games of different media owned by Warner Bros. They are a great studio that has made games like Mortal Kombat, Middle Earth series, and the Lego series.

In addition, they have also made the Batman Arkham Trilogy. Batman Arkham City and Batman Arkham Asylum are both Games of the Year of their release years. Yet the recent Gotham Knights game has also received a lot of criticism from the internet. So people are worried that the Hogwarts Legacy might suffer from such treatment as well.

Judging by the trailers and gameplay showcases, that doesn’t seem to be the case. The game looks fantastic, and it looks like the Avalanche that created games like the Arkham Trilogy is back. They are trying their utmost best to create the best Harry Potter game, and it can be seen if you watch the gameplay showcase videos on the official Hogwarts Legacy YouTube channel. 

Release Date and Platforms

Hogwarts Legacy has been confirmed to be released on February 10, 2023. Only two weeks or so are left before the game’s release, and all the fans are extremely excited about it. It is available for preorder on any site of your liking. Preordering can give you huge benefits, including the Dark Arts set, a special Hippogriff, and a 72-hour special early access.

Hogwarts Legacy is set to be released on all consoles, including the Nintendo Switch. If you have an older console, then do not worry because Hogwarts legacy is actually available on the PS4 as well as the Xbox One. The game was developed on the PS5, so if you have PS5 or another console, we will recommend going for the PS5 for an optimal experience.
