- Hogwarts Legacy topped the Steam Weekly Global Top Sellers chart ahead of its release.
- It beat the perpetual No.1 Steam Deck, showcasing the popularity of the upcoming fantasy game.
- The deluxe edition also ended up in the top 5 at No.4.
It would not be wrong to say that Hogwarts Legacy is one of the most anticipated releases of 2023. For good and bad reasons, the game has been in the news headlines for the better half of a year. Pre-orders of the RPG have been ruling charts for over a month now and everyone is expecting a big opening.
Hogwarts Legacy has jumped to the No.1 spot on the Steam Weekly Global Top Sellers chart this week. The Wizarding World title has overtaken the Steam Deck to attain this spot in the last chart before its release. With only a few days before its launch, this further adds fuel to the big opening it is expected to have.
Since its reveal in 2020, the hype for Hogwarts Legacy has been through the roof. Being part of the universally prevalent Harry Potter franchise has made it one of the biggest entertainment projects of 2023. And, its pre-orders have reflected that so far with the RPG topping charts on Amazon and Steam.
The game has been shrouded with controversy due to the remarks of Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. However, it seems like this has not really affected its performance as Hogwarts Legacy is selling like hotcakes. With the release only a few days away, players are finding it hard to contain their excitement.
Several leaks have come out regarding the game recently, with new gameplay and a flying minigame being one of them. Teases like death from vicious dragons and no restriction on unforgivable curses have just increased fanfare around the game. Industry experts have been expecting a massive launch week for Hogwarts Legacy for some time now.
And, the RPG’s position on the recent Steam weekly charts reflects all the publicity around it. Hogwarts Legacy held the top spot on the Weekly Global Top Seller Steam chart dated February 5. The Fantasy game beat out the mainstay at No.1 and Valve’s very own Steam Deck to move up to this spot.
If you know anything about the dominance of the handheld on Steam charts, you’ll understand how big this achievement is. Since its release, the Valve console has rarely left the top spot on the Global Top seller charts. Considering how it is the company’s main hardware product, this does make sense.
Only record-breaking releases have been able to displace it, and one of them is Hogwarts Legacy. This No.1 ranking signals how immense the release of the fantasy RPG is going to be. According to video game news aggregator Benji-Sales it is going to be “colossal.”
Talked about this in my most recent Live Chat. The 2 games Hogwarts Legacy pre-order tracking reminds me of?
Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077. Both of which were gargantuan launches.
Will be interesting to see reviews tomorrow because as of now it's looking absolutely massive https://t.co/qOtSJOmtdV pic.twitter.com/65frXdPg4k

He also said that Hogwarts Legacy is tracking to sell as much as Elden Ring did. So, this is going to be another unparalleled video game launch. The Deluxe edition of the game is also charting at No.4, meaning all versions are doing well.
Dead Space held its peak No.3 spot this week on the Steam Global Top Seller chart. The boxing game Undisputed rounded out the top 5 as it debuts at No.5 a few days after release. Hi-Fi Rush also jumped up two spots to hit a new peak of No.6.
The game has been an amazing success story critically and its performance on Steam has been a surplus. It has overtaken major AAA releases like Forspoken to be in the top 10. Hence, the underdog is well and truly living its tale.
Project Zomboid debuted at No.7, ahead of the Deluxe edition of Electronic Arts‘ Dead Space Remake. Red Dead Redemption 2 is in the top 10 again, at the No.9 spot this time. Call of Duty Modern Warfare II also held its position in the top 10, even if it did go down one spot.
Hogwarts Legacy beating out the Steam Deck is the most interesting info from this chart. It makes us excited for the game’s upcoming release, and it seems like it will be magical. All signs point to a gigantic launch matching generational AAA releases, but only time will tell if that happens.
The game launches on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PlayStation 5, and PC on February 10, 2023. Nintendo Switch and current-gen versions are arriving later. Will Hogwarts Legacy be as big a launch as Elden Ring was? Tell us in the comments below.
