A New Anno Game Possibly Leaked By The German Games Fund

The document might just have confirmed the existence of next Anno title in the series.

Story Highlights

  • A new Anno game is likely in the works by the same team that brewed Anno 1800 four years ago. The unnamed title was leaked by a German Games Fund doc and talks about features related to the series.
  • The features talked about in the document mention mechanics related to the city builder genre and also emphasize the solo campaign and a wide range of flexible multiplayer modes.
  • The title will deeply focus on fun and depth alongside a slew of new technical innovations to allow for an even greater Anno experience. The doc also says that the game will possibly launch on all platforms.
  • The unnamed title in the leak has not been officially affirmed by Ubisoft or Blue Byte. We suggest taking the rumors with a grain of salt. The features could also be referring to some other city builder.

It seems like a new Anno game could be in the brewer by the same devs that were responsible for Anno 1800. The existence of the title was leaked in a new German Games Fund document. As reported by the German gaming news site, Games Wirtschaft, the funding document from the German government mentioned Blue Byte, the devs behind the last series’ entry, alongside points that talk about the renowned mechanics of the franchise.

Rumors suggest the unnamed title could be the next Anno project in the works due to the wording that has been used to describe the mysterious placeholder game. Games Wirtschaft was the first to notice the peculiar detail and tweeted an image of the notable funding listing from the German government to Blue Byte. The translated tweet by the outlet discussed said, “How do I announce a new Anno without announcing a new Anno?

The project expands a proven and popular game principle with innovative features and lays a multifaceted game world at the players’ feet, which invites exploration and can be expanded and reshaped according to one’s own wishes,” reads the machine-translated image.

The rest of the document also discusses the leaked Anno game’s focus on fun and depth and wants to bring about new innovations. It will support the latest render features and 3D tech, optimizing usability for all platforms. It will also seemingly feature “solo campaign and flexible multiple modes,” and we are all familiar with Anno titles adopting similar features in past entries.

The most supportive structure to the rumor is that the title is under the Blue Byte umbrella, like the last Anno game. It would make sense for the next title in the series to be in the works because four years have elapsed since the last title came out. The publisher Ubisoft has also ensured to focus on Anno 1800 in recent times, giving it a much-deserved console launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Series X.

These discussed features could also imply some other title entirely since they can easily be adopted in other strategy games. All in all, it still confirms that at least one game is currently in the works by Blue Byte. We may hear more about it in the coming months. However, we suggest trekking through the rumor of this mysterious entry being the next Anno game with a grain of salt since it is not an official announcement by Ubisoft.

Anno 1800 is a city-building strategy game that stays loyal to its roots but adopts quite a historical setting. The change made sense because the last two games took place in a sci-fi setting. It is currently unclear what direction the devs will take for the future Anno entry.
