New Silent Hill Games Allegedly Confirmed By Movie Director

Cristopher Gans, the director of the first movie, has corroborated rumors of a new game.

Horror video games have become more mainstream in the past decade or so. A lot of new major studio titles released are based on horror and survival themes. Sons of the Forest, The Callisto Protocol, and Alan Wake 2 are just some of the major horror games releasing soon.

When we talk about horror video games, Silent Hill has to be one of the first names that come up. The series is responsible for inspiring a lot of horror games and is a cult classic in the genre. It has been going through some tough times after the cancellation of Kojima’s game but a comeback is on the cards.

Silent Hill is apparently also getting a new entry and it has been in the rumor mill for a long time. Many reports tell us how several games in the series are currently in the work but there has been no official confirmation. Now, a new interview from the first movie’s director may have given us indirect evidence.

While talking to the French website JEUXACTU, the director of the first Silent Hill movie Christopher Gans confirmed that Konami is working on several Silent Hill games (translated by Gamingsym). This interview took place at the re-release of an old Gans movie, Le Pacte des Loup.

Christopher Gans made it official that Konami is actually working on new entries in the franchise. It is relaunching the franchise in the form of several new games. He even said that a film is going to be a part of this new relaunch deal. “The franchise (Silent Hill, editor’s note) is going to be relaunched in terms of video games, and therefore the film will become part of a global policy,” he said.

However, the director does confirm that Konami didn’t approach them first about the movie. Producer Samuel Hadida already had rights to a Silent Hill movie and Gans wanted to do something with it. You will be glad to know that the movie is now rolling and the director is working with Konami; “What I can say is that the film is rolling. I work with Konami. Konami’s are all about it.”

It really shows us how Cristopher Gans does know what he is talking about. Another tidbit from the interview was the inspiration for this Silent Hill relaunch. Konami has taken inspiration from the success of the Resident Evil reboots, according to Gans. “I think they’ve been galvanized by the success of the Resident Evil 2 and 3 reboots, which are marvelous games,” he elaborated.
