Palworld Xbox Version Lacks 32-Player Dedicated Servers While Steam Has Them

The devs want to have dedicated servers on Xbox, but it's apparently not up to them.

Story Highlights

  • Palworld Xbox version only has 2-4 players in co-op mode, while Steam supports 32-player servers.
  • Pocket Pair has clarified that it wants to add dedicated servers on Xbox, but it is not up to them.
  • Xbox could get dedicated servers in the future; the devs are trying, but there is no confirmation yet.

Palworld came out with a bang a day ago and has already garnered a huge community across multiple platforms. However, not every platform has been treated equally. The Xbox version of the game only supports 2-4 players in co-op mode. It lacks dedicated servers with the capacity of 32 players, like on Steam. As reported by IGN, Pocket Pair addressed the dilemma during one of its statements and explained why on the Discord server.

Xbox only supports co-op mode. Xbox and Xbox PC can crossplay together though. We’d like to have dedicated servers on Xbox but unfortunately it’s not up to us and is quite difficult to negotiate at this time! But… we are trying!” reads the statement.

Other multi-platform titles have often been released with dedicated servers on Xbox. So, it is unclear what the devs mean when saying, “It’s not up to us.” The studio has not denied the possibility of dedicated servers on Xbox. But it is not yet confirmed for the near future. Palworld also does not have crossplay across Xbox and Steam versions, which is allegedly planned for later.

The open-world monster-collection title is certainly not perfect due to a plethora of glitches and bugs, albeit most are hilarious. The FOV for ultrawide monitor users on PC is also quite horrendous when it comes to horizontal view, but a player has figured out a solution for it.

Palworld came out to a critical reception in early access on January 19, 2024, for Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PC. The title has already gained over 700K active concurrent players on Steam after a single day passed. It’s unsurprising to see that the “Pokemon with guns” survival has also sold over a million copies in eight hours only after release.
