Epic Games Store Is Coming To Android And iOS Devices

It is deepening its roots into the gaming industry.

Story Highlights

  • Epic Games Store is slated to arrive on Android and iOS devices later this year, as revealed by the company.
  • The conglomerate can only launch its app on iOS devices because of the recent changes in the EU Digital Markets Act.
  • A concrete release window for the release of the new app across mobile devices is still unknown.

Epic Games has revealed that it is launching its marketplace on Android and iOS devices later this year. The tidbit was revealed in the recent State of Unreal Roundup blog that provided much-needed updates for Fortnite, Unreal Engine 5.4, and the sort. The mobile app store will feature a slew of games with the same fair terms for developers. However, it’s unclear whether any new entries by Epic Games would launch on the platform.

Finally, we shared more about our plans to bring the Epic Games Store to iOS and Android later this year, expanding developer access to our industry-leading revenue share and launching a true multi-platform store featuring amazing games for players,” reads the blog post.

The app’s launch on iOS devices would not have been possible in the past due to restrictions against third-party marketplaces. However, it has been lifted due to new changes in the EU Digital Markets Act.

Epic Games Store Is Entangled In A Tough Competition With Steam

Despite providing a better revenue share to devs compared to Steam, the marketplace has still brought no profits—as of 2023, at least. Additionally, it has given away free games worth over $10,000 since 2018, making it a favorable yet expensive endeavor. However, the new initiative to launch a mobile app on Android and iOS devices could give it a much-needed boost to increase its foothold in the PC gaming market.
