5. Levinbolt

SERIAL NO WEAPON NAME ATTACK DAMAGE STAGGER DAMAGE
5 Levinbolt 195 195
  • Why I Chose This: If you have obtained the Flametongue Sword, then crafting Levinbolt comes with no loss as it provides increased Attack and Stagger dmg.

After playing Final Fantasy for nearly 12 hours, I can confirm that Levinbolt, while seemingly an upgrade to Flametongue, offers only a slight improvement rather than a significant one.

To obtain Levinbolt, you’ll need the Lightning Shard, a rare shard acquired by defeating the Republican War Panther boss. Ensure you have this shard along with at least 2 Meteorite elements and the crafted Flametongue sword. Without the Flametongue, you won’t be able to craft Levinbolt.

To craft Levinbolt, visit Blackthorne at Cid’s Hideaway, where you can create the weapon quickly once you have all the necessary materials.

  • High Attack and Stagger dmg, slightly superior to previous weapons.
  • The crafting material is pretty rare.
  • Additionally needs Flametongue Sword to craft.

4. Grindstone

The Best Weapon For Mid-Game.

SERIAL NO WEAPON NAME ATTACK DAMAGE STAGGER DAMAGE
6 Grindstone 225 225
  • Why I Chose This: Grindstone is another great weapon in FF16 with high attack and stagger DMG. It has a great difference in stats than the weapons in the game.

Similar to the Stormcry sword that requires defeating an Eikon to get a shard, the Grindstone sword requires you to beat Hugo Kapka and obtain the Earth Shard from him. The first three weapons I mentioned in this list will feel underwhelming after you’ve got Grindstone for Clive.

Besides acquiring the Earth Shard for the Grindstone sword, you will also need three Meteorite elements and the Levinbolt sword to craft Grindstone at Cid’s Hideaway. This is a level 4 Rarity sword, and hence, you could easily tell it’s by far the best sword at this point.

  • Provides exceptionally high Attack and Stagger dmg of 225 each.
  • You need to defeat Eikon to obtain crafting material.

3. Diamond Sword

The Best Late-Game Weapon In FF16.

SERIAL NO WEAPON NAME ATTACK DAMAGE STAGGER DAMAGE
7 Diamond Sword 245 245
  • Why I Chose This: Diamond Sword falls in the category of one of the best weapons for mid-game, as it provides high dmg to deal with stronger foes.

If you’re coming from Grindstone to Diamond Sword, you will feel a significant upgrade in terms of Attack Damage & Clive’s Stagger Damage. It is by far the best weapon during the late game.

Like most weapons in this list, you will also need materials to craft and use Diamond Sword. Blackthorne will need one Whitewyrm Bone, one Imperial Link, and 90 Bloody Hide items or materials to craft this sword. Acquiring the second and the third mentioned materials may be a little easy, but you will need to defeat White Dragon in order to obtain the Whitewyrm Bone.

You basically get three of Whitewyrm Bone materials and 20 Bloody Hide materials anyway after defeating the White Dragon, but you just need one of these to craft Diamond Sword.

  • Provides a high increase in dmg and stagger, good for mid-game.
  • Need to defeat a boss to obtain crafting materials.

2. Gotterdammerung

The Strongest Weapon In NG.

SERIAL NO WEAPON NAME ATTACK DAMAGE STAGGER DAMAGE
8 Gotterdammerung 375 375
  • Why I Chose This: Gotterdammerung once obtained, carries you throughout your first playthrough, making NG an easy task.

I must say, the Gotterdammerung is undoubtedly one of the best weapons in the game, boasting the highest attack and stagger damage. To acquire it, complete the Blacksmith Blues IV side quest, which rewards you with the Gotterdammerung Design Draft curiosity, unlocking the ability to craft this exceptional weapon.

With the Gotterdammerung Design Draft in hand, visit The Black Hammer at Cid’s Hideaway to craft the weapon using these materials:

The Blacksmith’s Blues questline consists of missions that unlock the necessary materials for crafting both the Gotterdammerung and Ultima Weapons for Clive. Each quest in this chain can be triggered by speaking to the quest giver NPC at The Hideaway.

Obtaining the Ragnarok sword is a vital step in crafting the Gotterdammerung, and it’s acquired by completing all quests in the Blacksmith’s Blues side questline, which becomes available during Main Story Quest 35 onwards.

  • It is extremely powerful for first playthrough.
  • The second-strongest weapon in FF16.
  • Crafting recipe is obtained only after completing a side quest.
  • Not that useful in NG+ after obtaining Ultima Weapon.

1. Ultima Weapon

The Strongest Weapon In FF16.
Ultima Weapon in FF16
SERIAL NO WEAPON NAME ATTACK DAMAGE STAGGER DAMAGE
9 Ultima Weapon 700 700
  • Why I Chose This: Ultima weapon is THE strongest weapon in FF16 with the high DMG and stagger. It can easily melt almost everything.

Crafting the Ultima Weapon, the best weapon NG+, requires that you complete the game’s main story for at least once, and then you enter in the New Game Plus mode. This weapon would only be available in this mode.

To craft the Ultima Weapon in FF16, you will need to do the following steps:

  1. Complete the main story to unlock New Game Plus.
  2. Gather crafting materials in NG+ as you progress through increased difficulty levels.
  3. Obtain Ragnarok by completing the Blacksmith’s Blues questline again.
  4. Visit Blackthorne’s blacksmith in the Hideaway and craft the Ultima Weapon using the gathered materials.
  • Can easily melt bosses and mini-bosses with high DMG and stagger.
  • The strongest weapon in the game.
  • Requires a lot of farming, pretty tedious to obtain.
  • Can only be acquired in NG+.

Why Is Ultima Exclusive To New Game Plus?

The Ultima Weapon can only be obtained in New Game Plus (NG+) mode or Final Fantasy Mode for several reasons, and good too, since I believe this is too powerful for enemies in the regular/standard run. In any case, I believe here are the top 4 reasons why Ultima is kept as NG+ best weapon in Final Fantasy 16:

  1. Increased Difficulty: NG+ mode significantly raises the game’s difficulty level, with tougher enemies and a higher level cap. The Ultima Weapon matches this heightened challenge with its overwhelming power.
  2. Reward for Completion: Crafting the Ultima Weapon serves as a reward for players who have completed the main story and seek a more challenging experience in NG+.
  3. Game Balance: Keeping the Ultima Weapon exclusive to NG+ helps maintain game balance. Its power surpasses that of other weapons, and introducing it in the standard game could disrupt balance.
  4. Unchangeable Difficulty Setting: NG+ players cannot revert to lower difficulty settings, making the Ultima Weapon crucial for survival in the increased difficulty of this mode.

Alternative Weapons

Here are some other weapons in FF16 that you can also try out if the ones mentioned above do not work out for you.

  • Enhancer.
  • Ancient Sword.
  • Platinum Sword.

My Thoughts On The Best Weapon In FF16

Final Fantasy XVI
Final Fantasy 16 Sphinx Profile

The choice of Ultima being the best weapon in Final Fantasy 16 is obvious. Not only is this weapon incredibly iconic within the franchise, but it’s also the ultimate reward for the players who complete this extremely long adventure twice. Ultima offers the best stats and is the weapon you should go for when taking arms against the final boss, Ultima himself.

In the heart-stopping saga of the game, the power your weapons contain basically molds Clive’s journey as & makes the experience smooth. High ATK and Stagger damage weapons not only define Clive’s combat strategy but also dictate the tactical depth that sets this game apart from its predecessors. These powerful tools of war, swords, are catalysts that transform Clive’s journey from an ordinary struggle for survival into an epic tale of heroism.
