Nintendo Switch Successor Dev Kit Supposedly Obtained By A Spanish Studio

It appears that the fables surrounding the Nintendo Switch successor are only deepening their roots by the day, with the latest rumor hinting towards an imminent announcement soon. The dev kits for the next Nintendo console are reportedly already in the hands of development studios, which confirms that next-gen games for the unannounced device are likely already in the brewer.

As per the recent rumors by a credible Nintendo leaker, “@NWeedle,” the Switch 2 dev kits have reportedly already been shipped to certain devs, suggesting that we are in the last stages of the Nintendo Switch console before the successor arrives to steal the spotlight. Nash Weedle talks about a specific Spanish development studio without revealing the name out of secrecy.

While this rumor alone does not hold much weight, the leaker has been recognized by many gamers for unveiling Metroid Dread before its official reveal. Moreover, going by the past leaks of the insider, the specific Spanish studio stated here could be none other than the devs behind the 2D games in the Metroid franchise, MercurySteam. It would also explain the strong relationship between Nintendo and the Spanish studio.

The rabbit hole goes even deeper with another insider stating that Nintendo had been shipping dev kits for its next console to some game studios. Connor on Twitter shared the info according to their source earlier this year, affirming that Nintendo has been sending out dev kits for quite a while now. Many past leaks have also alluded to the same conclusions that the giant conglomerate is closer than ever to announce the next console.

While Nintendo has not stepped in for official comments on the latest rumors, the president Shuntaro Furukawa has already partaken in a Q&A session to guide users on how to transition smoothly to the unannounced console. The company reportedly seeks to utilize the players’ same Nintendo accounts for a smooth transition, like the Xbox and PlayStation consoles on the market. 

The PR talk within Nintendo has already begun regarding the next console, and the current rumors also add a lot of fuel to the fire of fables. Ubisoft’s CEO also recently noted that Nintendo had advised Ubisoft to release Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope on Switch’s successor. Regardless, we still suggest taking the rumors about the Switch successor dev kits with a huge pinch of salt, as they are prone to be wrong until officially verified by Nintendo.

Not a lot of details are currently known concerning the secretive next-gen Nintendo console, but we are familiar it is likely targeting a 2024-2025 release date, as many rumors have teased in the past. Additionally, the renowned conglomerate is supposedly already in discussions with suppliers for the production of the upcoming consoles. 

The Nintendo Switch has only recently started to stagnate in sales after selling an absurd amount of units over the last few years, and the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom also fueled its sales immensely. We can expect many third-party games to release on the platform for a long while, as earlier stated by Famitsu.
