Baldur’s Gate 3 Is Running Out Of Awards To Win As It Bags Yet Another GOTY

As Larian Studios — the Belgium-based developer of the title — decides to depart from the Baldur’s Gate IP and bide its focus elsewhere, it’ll rest easy, knowing that it’s left nothing short of a legacy behind its work on Baldur’s Gate 3. So to speak, this gargantuan RPG has collected 5 different Game of the Year awards on 5 unique occasions, with the latest one in line coming from the 20th BAFTA Games Awards.

A Quick Rundown Of The Awards Baldur’s Gate 3 Won So Far

Starting with November last year, Baldur’s Gate 3 first bagged the Ultimate Game of the Year distinction at the Golden Joysticks Awards, along with a myriad of other trophies. One month later, when the sky-high The Game Awards 2023 went down, Baldur’s Gate 3 was crowned the Game of the Year, sprinting right ahead of the likes of Alan Wake 2, Resident Evil 4, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and others. 

Then came the DICE Awards in February 2024, and Baldur’s Gate 3 ran its train at the event again, taking home the Game of the Year prize along with 4 others. Over three weeks ago, the Game Developers Choice Awards (GDC) took place, and guess what? Game of the Year again for Larian’s latest RPG. Finally adding to the catalog at long last is the aforementioned BAFTA Awards, making it a total of 5 enormous wins for the game. 

Incredible, and that’s saying the least. 

What’s Next For Larian? 

Evidently, not Baldur’s Gate 4. The studio still plans on developing the RPG in the name of updates, subsequent patches, and some new content, such as mod support, but forget about new content—Larian says DLCs and expansions just aren’t its thing, and that’s respectable. 

The developer now has other projects under the works, with one of them being so huge in scale, it’s going to “dwarf them all,” including Baldur’s Gate 3 supposedly. That’s quite the tough talk, but given how it’s Larian at the helm, the latter just might be possible.
