What Is Need For Infernal Iron In Baldur’s Gate 3

The Hellion’s Heart is a quest in Baldur’s Gate 3 that involves helping Karlach find a way to cool her infernal engine. The search begins when you talk to Karlach in the Blighted Village. She will tell you about her condition of the burning chest and ask for your help finding infernal iron.

During this quest, your main goal will be to find Infernal Iron. Subsequently, you must deliver this material to Dammon, a Tiefling blacksmith in various locations, including the Emerald Grove. 

Utilizing Infernal Iron

Once you have found Infernal iron and given it to Dammon, he will tell you that Karlach’s engine is undergoing an overdrive state, putting her life at risk. To fix it and save her, she needs to put an infernal iron in her chest.

After completing that task, a cutscene will trigger, showing Karlach incorporating the Infernal Iron into her Engine. Keep in mind that you can only have a conversation with Dammon once in this area to help cool her down.

Locations Of The Infernal Iron In BG3

Baldur’s Gate 3 features six different locations where you can discover Infernal Iron. These locations offer unique challenges and rewards, giving players various experiences to enjoy as they explore the game world. Below, I have briefly discussed each location:

Blighted Village

In Baldur’s Gate 3, players have the opportunity to find an Infernal Iron within a building at coordinates (X:37 Y:420) in the Blighted Village. Once inside the building, they should employ fire to clear a substantial calcified web on the floor. Afterward, jumping into the hole created will be necessary. Following this, players can ascend the nearby ladder and unlock the chest on the platform to acquire the material.

Shattered Sanctum

The Shattered Sanctum, or the interior of the Goblin Hideout, can be accessed through a sturdy oak door (X:-106 Y:454). After completing the step, you can take possession of the Infernal Iron. Your task involves locating Dror Ragzlin at the rear and uncovering his hidden items at coordinates (X:296 Y:65). There are several methods to access his stash, such as the ones I have mentioned below:

• Defeating Dror Ragzlin and obtaining his key.
• Pickpocketing Dror Ragzlin to get his key.
• Using the Knock spell to unlock the door.
• Applying lockpicking skills to open the door.
• Forcefully breaking down the door.

Zhentarim Hideout

If you’ve found the secret Zhentarim Hideout near Waukeen’s Rest (X:-127 Y:617), you can discover another part of Infernal Iron there. This time, you’ll need to steal it, so be careful and sneak around or be ready for a fight. You’ll find it positioned behind a locked gate at coordinates (X:282, Y:167).

Find a way to get in, and you’ll see two chests. Both are locked and have traps, but the one on the right is the one you want. Once you deal with the trap and unlock it, you can take the Infernal Iron.

Grymforge

In the Underdark of Baldur’s Gate 3, there’s a boat allowing players to access Grymforge. Close to this area’s Waypoint, fans will encounter Stonemason Kith, a Duergar merchant. He offered me Infernal Iron after I successfully passed a History, Investigation, or Perception check. 

1. He will ask you some questions about the stonework in the area.
2. To get the Infernal Iron for free, you need to pass three checks with a difficulty level of 10.
3. It’s a good idea to have the Shadowheart companion with you because she is skilled in History and Perception. It increases your chances of passing all three checks successfully.

Masons Guild 

While journeying through the Shadow-Cursed Lands, players will probably come across Reithwin Town. To the north of the town’s Waypoint, there’s a Mason Guild where several Infernal irons can be found on the first floor.

But you’ll need to advance the story a bit before you can move through the Shadow Curse without restrictions. After completing this step, you can take possession of the Infernal Iron.

The Gauntlet Of Shar

On the western side of the gauntlet, right before entering Balthazar’s workshop through the door, there’s a heavily locked door to the north with a difficulty level of 30. Successfully unlock this door and search the chests within to obtain Infernal Iron.
