Palworld: How To Get Gunpowder [Tocotoco Pal & Crafting]

Learn how to acquire gunpowder in Palworld, either by defeating Tocotoco Pal or reach Tech level 21 for explosive crafting adventures.

Capturing or hunting down pals is the core mechanic in Palworld. This is achieved once you have powerful weapons, in particular industrial guns. Even if you get those, you will run out of bullets sooner than you know, and to craft more bullets, you need to learn how to get gunpowder in Palworld. This is one of the hard to craft resources, as you need charcoal, and sulfur (another challenging resource to get in high volume).

Key Takeaways
  • To obtain gunpowder in Palworld, players can either defeat the explosive Tocotoco Pal or craft it upon reaching Technology level 21.
  • Tocotoco Pal, primarily found in the Desert Biome, possesses the ability to explode when approached.
  • Locate them in the central desert or on the northeast desert island.
  • Craft gunpowder at Technology Level 21 by combining Charcoal and Sulfur
  • Ammo types that need Gunpowder are the following:
    • Assault Rifle Ammo

How To Get Gunpowder

The easiest way to get gunpowder is to defeat Tocotoco Pal in Palworld but you can also craft it once you have reached level 21 of Technology Tree.

Important: The Tocotoco pal is mostly found in Desert Biome in Palworld, but I have found a couple of randomly exploring the areas behind the Rayne Syndicate Tower. This area is also home to Pengullet, and while farming Ice Organs, I did come across a couple of Tocotoco Pals there.

Finding Tocotoco Pal

Tocotoco creatures might seem harmless at first glance, but they have a knack for exploding. Once they spot you, they’ll either run away or chase you down and explode. When they go into explosion mode, they speed up and catch up to you wherever you go. One way to avoid the explosion is by dodging right when it starts to blow up.

You can catch a Tocotoco when they attack your base. This could take so long and killing a couple will not give you enough gunpowder to make some of the best weapons in Palworld. Therefore, you can find Tocotoco in two places:

  • Desert: In the desert at the center of the map, east of the Sealed Realm of the Winged Tyrant fast travel point.
  • Desert Island: On the big desert island in the northeast of Palworld’s map.

Now, let’s talk about catching a Tocotoco in Palworld and some tips for the battle. Tocotoco isn’t too tough, except when it surprises you with explosions. It’s a Neutral Pal, so use a Dark Pal for efficiency.

This is a scary Pal that produces exploding eggs. It often shoots these eggs from its back as a weapon, but after using this tactic, the Pal itself blows up. Most Tocotoco pals are level 17 or higher, so you can catch one with a regular Pal Sphere, but it’s safer to use a Mega Pal Sphere.

Important: If you capture Tocotoco, you get the following from him:

  • Eggbomb Launcher Partner Skill:  When activated, it attaches to the player and turns into an egg launcher.
  • Work Suitability: Gathering Level 1
  • Possible Drops:
    1. Gunpowder
    2. Tocotoco Feather

In order to craft the Gunpowder crafting material in Palworld, you need to first reach level 21 Technology.

You need the following base items to craft one Gunpowder:

  • Charcoal x2
  • Sulfur x1
How To Get Charcoal: The easiest way to get charcoal is to set up a primitive furnace, assign a fire pal and make charcoal. Using 2 wood items will produce one Charcoal resource material.
How To Get Sulfur: Explore overworld dungeons or visit the Twilight Dunes and Bamboo Grove zones, where large yellowish-hued chunks of solid rock serve as Sulfur nodes. You can also mine the Sulfur in dungeons found within caves marked by intertwined tree trunks and vines.

Why Do You Need Gunpowder

  • Assault Rifle Ammo
  • Coarse Ammo
  • Frag Grenade
  • Handgun Ammo
