Dark And Darker Next Playtest Confirmed; 4th Playtest Crossed 2 Million Users

The latest playtest proved to be the biggest the title has ever seen.

Story Highlights

  • Dark and Darker’s fourth playtest reportedly crossed over the two million players mark, as announced by the developers on Twitter and Discord.
  • The data collected by the players will reportedly help the developers to polish and balance out the game’s classes for future releases.
  • The team has also already confirmed the next playtest for the game, but no specific release date has been announced yet.
  • The new dungeon crawler has managed to hit an all-time peak of over 70,000 active players at one point during one of its playtests. The users were averaging around the 50,000 mark.

Dark and Darker is a cunning FPS dungeon crawler that requires wits and teamwork to survive the darkened labyrinths. It has attracted a plethora of players in all of its playtests, and each of the playtest has proven better in various ways than the old ones. The fourth playtest has recently closed, and its end has also brought good news.

The developers behind Dark and Darker have recently given us an estimated figure to put its vast player base into perspective. The fourth playtest reportedly saw a flock of over two million players during its lifetime. In other words, over two million players were flooding the servers to enjoy the hardcore fantasy adventure experience.

The players celebrated the tweet in the replies, with most showing support for achieving such a huge number of players. Many users have requested the developer to release the game already in early access. However, that does not appear to be the choice the team has made.

The developers also announced over Discord, noting the vast figure and how it will help Dark and Darker. The first-person dungeon hunting experience will fully benefit the players, as the reports and experience will enhance the game for the next playtests.

Moreover, a future playtest has also been officially confirmed, but the developers have not announced an exact date yet. We can expect the next playtest to arrive after the collected user data is applied and the game is further balanced for a better player experience. For instance, the classes can be better balanced in the future.

Thanks to the nearly 2 million player who joined us during Alpha Playtest #4.
We collected even more data that we will use to improve the game and our support systems. We will announce news regarding the next playtest once we have a chance to digest this data and build a schedule,” said developers over on Discord.

The game is not even in early access, but it has witnessed an inpour of players enjoying the limited-time experiences. The title has grown widely popular among live streamers and content creators, which has further pushed the new entry to become one of the most popular played entries during the last few months.

For context, one of the past playtests witnessed an all-time peak of over 70,000 concurrent players collectively traversing the dungeon in search of bounties. The active users were easily averaging around the 50,000-player mark, and since then, the game has grown massively in popularity.

Dark and Darker’s fourth playtest was even bigger in player base, and it noticed more activity from the community; we can expect the upcoming playtests to gather even more users.

Dark and Darker is a hearty ode to the original dungeon crawler genre, and it combines the best classic elements with modern allure to craft something unique. Players have to team up with a party to hunt for treasures; escaping with it alive is the goal, as both the players and horrific creatures will try to stop you at every moment.
