Diablo 4 Trading Suspended Due To Gold & Item Duplication Exploit

Blizzard's bad track record for maintaining games continues.

Story Highlights

  • Diablo 4 has suspended trading for gold and various items due to duplication exploit and threatened players with a ban if they’re caught using it.
  • According to responses from players, the exploit itself has been going on for at least two weeks.
  • Blizzard has ensured that it’s working on a fix for the issue and will update the players accordingly. Once fixed, the devs will monitor the situation to ensure a “healthy” playing experience for fans.

In a new Reddit post, Blizzard stated that player trading has been suspended until further notice due to the exploit of item duplication and will update the community once it’s fixed. While Diablo 4 supports trading of Common, Magic, and Gold items, it does not feature an in-game auction house like Diablo 3 did. Therefore, players have used platforms like Discord to trade for the items they desire.

However, some players have abused the exploit to bid large amounts of gold on items, and this has led to an imbalance in the game’s economy.

The suspension of trading has gotten mixed reactions from players. Some are questioning why this problem wasn’t dealt with immediately while others are simply requesting the developers to fix their game before doing anything else.

Thankfully, the recent patch 1.1.1 has been well-received by the fans, and hopefully, the new update will fully fix the exploit issue as well as compensate the players who fell victim to the exploit.

Despite all the controversies the game has faced, it managed to cross $666 million in just five days and has sold more than 10 million copies by now becoming Blizzard’s fastest-selling game ever. Now, only time will tell if the company can keep up this momentum or fall short of expectations once again like their previous title, Overwatch 2
