Final Fantasy 16 Was The Most-Played PS5 Entry In Japan During Its Launch Month

The chronicles of Clive were enjoyed by a vast community worldwide.

Story Highlights

  • Final Fantasy 16 was the most-played entry in Japan during its last month for the PlayStation 5 console. The conclusion further nullifies the argument that the game did not sell well.
  • In June, it was the sixth-biggest title by monthly active users globally on the console. Around 13% of PlayStation 5 gamers have played the game around the globe ever since it was released.
  • FF16 retained its status as the second-highest PlayStation 5 entry by daily active users globally for three days after its thriving debut, surpassed only by FIFA 23.
  • Square Enix is extremely happy with the game sales, as announced previously. It sold 3 million copies in its launch week when it came out on June 22 for the PS5.

Final Fantasy 16 appears to be thriving with a steady incline towards glamour among other AAA releases this year. A recent report by Ampere Analysis shows that FF16 was the most-played entry in Japan during its last month for the PlayStation 5 console. The finding is huge considering the initial player reactions that feared the entry might fail to achieve the critical acclaim it deserves because of fierce competition.

Interestingly, average play time per player was at its highest in Japan, at more than 22 hours in the month, which is almost four hours longer than the average player in the US,” states the report.

The Japanese players are likely more engaged in the Final Fantasy 16 universe due to a lack of popular PlayStation 5 entries in the region. Western countries like the USA dominate the PS5 platform with titles like Fortnite, Grand Theft Auto V, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and the like.

As per the new report, the entry has performed wonderfully when player engagement is considered. The analytics data shows that Final Fantasy 16 was the sixth-biggest entry by monthly active users globally on the console in June. Around 13% of PlayStation 5 gamers worldwide have played through the game together out of the whole current-gen console owners.

Additionally, the hearty RPG bragged about its popularity as the second-highest PlayStation 5 game by daily active users worldwide for three days after its triumphant debut, crossed only by FIFA 23. To add more, FF16 overshadowed the likes of Fortnite and Call of Duty for a limited time. It flocked twice as many daily players as the next most favored PS5 title, Apex Legends, in June.

The biggest market for the game resided in the USA, boasting one-third of the players. On the other hand, Japan contained one-quarter of the whole community. Other countries with a considerable fan base include the UK, Germany, Canada, and South Korea. All in all, the data also includes the demo activity for the title before it was released in June.

Final Fantasy 16 is a hearty adventure filled with memorable combat sequences.

The report also discusses the possibility that a perceived lack of sales for Final Fantasy 16 emerged because of how popular Nintendo Switch is in Japan. Usually, Japanese game charts are riddled with Switch releases for weeks. The RPG venture sold over three million copies in Japan on the PS5 during its launch week. Square Enix was happy with the results and called them “extremely strong” despite the prevalent opinions in the industry.

Final Fantasy 16 was praised a ton by the community when it came out globally on June 22 for the PlayStation 5. A PC version is planned, but no other official details exist for the port. On the other hand, the chances for the game to arrive on Xbox Series X and Series S are even minuscule.
