Traversal In Spider-Man 2 Is Incredibly Fast, Footage Shows

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is out now, and fans just can’t get enough of the two web crawlers. Acquiring Metacritic’s “Must-Play” seal and becoming the highest-rated Spider-Man game ever, it’s safe to say that the sequel is a huge improvement over its predecessor. So to speak, one of the major enhancements worth highlighting manifests in the form of traversal speed; new footage shows just how fast you can go in NYC as the two Spider-Men.

I can’t help but drool over the fact that Insomniac has achieved insurmountable heights with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and we all thought the studio pretty much peaked with the first game, which featured nowhere near the same movement speed as the sequel. 

Of course, added functionality, such as having Web Wings that allows Peter and Miles to glide through the skies of New York City helps monumentally, but apart from that, the core fundamentals seem to have been rigorously polished. Now, you won’t be able to attain this level of swinging pace as soon as you start out, as u/mobyvg22 — the OP — says that all this is the result of consistent suit and skill tree upgrades.

You get faster swinging and the dash ability from the skill tree helps a lot too.” So yeah, pretty much a mix of all pertinent skill upgrades combined, followed by a show of some quick fingers from the side of the player.

What’s commendable here is that despite the Spider-Men sailing through different parts of the map at these great speeds, there are no noticeable frame drops or a decrease in the performance to take into account. The PS5’s hardware is certainly something to credit here, given how the title’s game director—Ryan Smith—has also praised the console for allowing them to go the extra mile.
